Why are you disappointed?

AKFIELD in reply toFifitrixiebell73

Well, am I correct in my workings out... I'm rubbish at maths so I could be wrong, I hope🤞 13.47mph is 20kmph, therefore roughly 10km per 30mins?double what it shoukd be for 5km in 30mins? Or have I got myself in a muddle? 🤦‍♀️ Help!!!!

I'm probably running about the same speed. I won't get to 5k in 30 mins, but that's ok. I'm still running, as are you!

I think there's a poll on here that says 90% of C25K runners don't do 5k in 30 mins when graduated. It'll come later.

You're doing just fine! 💪

That's useful and encouraging to hear, so thank you. Just getting out and running should be enough....

No I don’t think you are correct. And 5k in 30 minutes is not what it should be. Hardly anyone does that

Assuming you mean 13 minutes per mile, that would be 5k in about 42 minutes, totally respectable!

(I assume that's what you mean, as running at 20kph you'd complete a 5k in 15 minutes which would be an olympic qualification time for a woman!)

You can't judge improvement by one reading - that's just a baseline to start from. You've just done 3 25 minute runs maybe for the first time in your life- that on the other hand is impressive!

You are right!!! Thank you

No advice but I feel your pain. Strava and my watch/phone were wildly different on speed and distance and even more oddly time. Michael quite clearly told me I’d run my 28 minutes and strava gave me a whole two minutes less.

I’ve decided progress is all relative to whatever device you used at the beginning and I’ve sent Strava to the cloud until I’m ready to work out why it’s so different.

I think it’s following the programme that’s important not distance at this point. I’m hoping distance will come with more practice and fitness.

It took me a day to get over my disappointment but then got told in no uncertain terms by my son to look at how far I’ve come and how brilliantly I am doing. You need to congratulate yourself on your progress. I bet seven weeks ago you never thought you’d be running! I know I didn’t think I’d make it past W1R1.

Well done!!!!!! You’re doing brilliantly!!!!

Thank you. Your support is so appreciated... You are right, I've never run before. Let alone for 25 mins three times in a week.... That achievement should be enough. We are all doing more than we did before. Thank you!!!

That is so true. It amazes me that a iPhone and a Garmin watch manage to measure time, distance, cadence and pace differently. What is even more surprising that many of those are tied together by simple formulae but somehow they can't even get that right. If I multiply my average stride by my average cadence and total time, I get a distance that is quite different from anything reported! I now just use Google Earth to work out how far I have ran and a stop watch to workout the pace, at least I know that is correct. Needless to say, the result is different from both pieces of tech! Quite bazaar.

You are doing brilliantly! Tracking runs during the programme is a mixed bag because you may look at your stats and feel discouraged but you don't need to do it, just concentrate on completing the programme comfortably without injury you can think about speeding up much later on, post graduation. There is absolutely no problem with your speed - it's the right speed for you just now.

Thank you, the support on this forum is just amazing and gets me through..... You are right. I've deleted strava and may return to it later.... I'm just such a plodder, not the elegant gazelle I wanted to be!!! It's such a hard plod too.... Doesn't seem to be getting any easier!!!

Hardly anyone manages to run 5k in 39 minutes at the end of the programme. I was only running 3.7 k in 30 mins when I finished.

Sorry typo - 30 mins!

I’m never going to be a gazelle but at least I’m off my bottom, outside in fresh air and taking exercise three times a week. I’m proud of myself!

...but you, whether you realise it or not, or getting stronger:)

Do you mean 13 minutes per mile? Otherwise your running 20k in an hour. My best pace is 7k in an hour and I run at roughly 12 /13 mins per mile . I’m well chuffed with it too

Agree with above post. There is something wrong here. Can you post up a screenshot of your Strava run?

I think you might mean 13 minute miles not mph

Stop fretting... you just run, and enjoy. The idea is, 30 minute runs after nine week...comfortably and injury free. :)

Polls have shown, time and time again that most runners doing C25K never reach 5K in 30 minutes... ever. They run half Marathons, Marathons, Triathlons...but have ever done 5K in 30 minutes!

The runs evolve...the more you do, the stronger you get and yes, there may come a time when you may desire distance and speed...or not. That time is not now...simply have fun and relax and try not to focus on time or distance... enjoy:)

You are doing just fine:)
