FELL OVER

Graduated 6 runs ago (but couldn't work out how to get graduate next to my name) Then went out on Monday full of confidence as I have changed my route and really enjoying knowing I can keep going for the 30 minute when I felt myself flailing and falling; there was nothing I could do to stop myself. I hit my head on the pavement really hard and grazed knee, shoulder, arm and hand plus I was completely winded. It must have looked pretty spectacular as I had a cyclist and motorist stop to check I was ok. I am feeling sorry for myself (I bet you can tell!!! and I am too old to fall over like that) Missed my run today and still in real pain from the ribs but reading your posts on here tonight has made me determined to get back out there although it may take a while as breathing heavily hurts. Jealous of all those fit and well but just want to join with those of you suffering aches, pains and injuries in solidarity and to say we will run again. Good luck everyone!

I too fell over just after graduating. Took a week to get over the injuries and dust myself off. Think I was trying too hard to do 5k in 30 minutes. Now relax into the run and either do 30 minutes or 5k and often find I have energy left to keep going a bit extra

Maybe we get slightly over confident when we think we can do it. Enjoy your running, I will try to be more chilled too.

I also graduated about 5 weeks ago and today running after a 5 day break between runs as felt a bit off and also fell. I slipped on the grass but thankfully no real injury but had to walk for a bit. As reply below I think I’m obsessing about doing 5k in a shorter time so maybe this is a sign I need to relax and try to just enjoy it. Hope you recover soon. 🌞

Oh no! That sounds really painful, there's plenty of room on the Injury Couch for you, but hopefully you won't be here too long 💐

Hello Trying. I feel I have to reply as much of your post could almost have been written by me.... Two days ago I also fell. My collateral damage was as follows: a chunky cut on my temple (only one inch long but producing a pretty spectacular waterfall of blood all down my face and clothes. I did not realise that I was capable of projectile bleeding...); bruised & grazed shoulder; injured arm and hand; grazed knees; painful hips and ribs. I am nothing if not thorough - like you. I was surprised at the similarity of our injuries.

Where we differ however, is in what caused our injuries. You were (rather magnificently) out on a quest to achieve speed and fitness: flying across the countryside at a pace which was so impressive that it could not be controlled. ....

I on the other hand, was at home hurrying to answer the phone...

To my surprise, one of the main things which went through my mind as I lay in shock was..........’Oh no! I hope this doesn't might mess up my running schedule!....’

I hope you recover speedily.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to you too. I am not sure your description of my activity fits the reality ( more plodding example of Japanese slow jogging) but I can dream.....lets hope we are not out of action for too long.

Sounds horrible I think when we have a fall our body goes into shock to try to help us, which is good but it makes us hurt, rest well and happy running when your ready
