Hi I ran my 2nd run on week 9 yesterday and am feeling very pleased with myself😀 I haven’t run since my school days which is a very long time ago!!! I’m 56!
I’m still not hitting 5k at the moment yesterday I ran 4.59k in 30 mins and was running at a pace of 6.40km What does my pace need to be to hit 5k?
Couch to 5k is great never in a million years would I have thought I would be running for 30 minutes solidly 9 weeks ago!! I would recommend it to everyone 😊😊

Well done on the running that's a pretty quick pace. You dont actually have to complete 5k to complete this programme, just need to be able to run for 30mins 3 times.
However if your pace is better than 6:00mins / km then you'll hit 5k before the 30mins is up.
According to a table I came across, the average 5k time for the 55-59 age group is 37:33 for men and 45:18 for women. If you kept going at that pace you'd do it in 32 minutes. So please do carry on feeling pleased with yourself
Well done it’s brilliant that you can run half an hour without stopping. I’m onto my last run of week 6. Have you anything left in the engine to make the other .4km up? I’m certain once you start doing the 5k your time will improve. But even if it doesn’t. Who cares? Just keep on keeping on.
The short answer is 6:00/km or 9:39/mile for 30 minutes over 5k
However, you’re already pretty quick for a new runner, I wouldn’t allow myself to focus on pace at this stage... you’ll become a little faster naturally over the next few months. You’re 410 meters short of 5k, which is amazing, and it’d be much easier to just run the extra time to reach that 5k milestone. Looking at what you’ve achieved in a couple of months, that sub 30 will come to you, there’s no need to chase it. Adding extra endurance is the easier way to get there.
Have a wonderful graduation run... relax... you’re awesome.
Thanks for all the great comments, going for my last week 9 run tonight so will hopefully have a quicker pace but definetely going to keep on running after this 😀
