Rain and a podcast. I’ve been feeling very left out of this running in the rain malarkey as it has not yet coincided with my schedule. But I woke up to drizzle and thought, today’s the day. By the time I got my act together it had stopped! Was feeling a bit cheated but halfway through it started raining again, steady and slow just like me! It was nice to be cooled down as I went along.
I listen to podcasts a lot but I’ve always had my running playlist as my buddy and I love it. But never say never, and having read what others have said about podcasts , I thought I’d give it a go today. I was so pleased to find that the last episode of a series I’ve been listening to has appeared after an unavoidable delay. Perfect! And I actually enjoyed listening to it as much as my music so that’s another string to my mix it up bow. I don’t know if anyone else has listened to the podcasts about the Apollo moon landings and Apollo 13 but they’re so good if you’re interested in that. The first series gives loads of details about the historical context and how the technology was developed and the second one about how they overcame the odds to return safely - and more factual than the Hollywood version! BBC sounds app “30 seconds to the moon”
All in all a good 30 mins consolidation run with no drama. Have a good weekend everyone

Fabulous, so many thanks for this! I love podcasts but have never ever run to them. I needed my music playlists to keep me in that running bubble. But being on W9 R2 makes me want to line up some new things to try after graduation. I might give the Apollo podcast a try and i always have some podcasts in my queue. So big thanks 🙏 😊 for all the ides that keep us keeping going.
Hi Hettie. Great post. I listen to bbc i-player. Documentaries, dramas anything. Keeps my brain engaged while engaging body too. Makes up for having to have ear buds in to listen to running instructions too as I don’t normally do that when out side. Like to hear birds sing. I also love running in the rain very cooling. Even been known to time runs to do in the rain - am I odd?🤔
Keep it up and celebrate everything you achieve. 💪😀👍
I switched from music to podcasts as I was keeping pace with the music which was way too fast (I'm only on w6)! I like to listen to series that make me laugh... helps with the breathing, and keeps me smiling instead of grimacing!! 😅
Oh I love a good podcast but I haven’t been brave enough to switch from my running playlist.... you may have convinced me to have a go.... I have been listening to run pod which is funny and inspiring but don’t listen to the Keith lemon episode while running 😂.
Today has been my first dry run in ages! I missed the cool down it provides but not the jumping over puddles mid stride 🤪
Really good post - and I think you win for the best user name SweatyHettie! I'm going to run to a podcast next time as I'm getting a bit tired of the music now. Good recommendation. I've also heard that 'Fortunately - with Fi and Jane' is good.
Ah thank you - it was describes me perfectly! I never thought I’d ditch the music but it was ok. Then again I never thought I’d ditch Michael Johnson and he was binned within a week of graduating 🤣
Glad you’ve now joined the ‘running in the rain’ gang! I’m looking ahead to the forecast for next week, temperatures in the high 20’s, I will definitely be wishing for rain then!
I’ve still not tried podcasts when I’m running. You’ve inspired me to try that next. I love gardening, so I could look up podcasts on that, but I wonder if it will feel a bit too tame to keep my legs moving? I’ll enjoy having a browse, to see what’s out there, ready for Monday morning’s efforts 🏃♀️😃
