Bring on Week 5!

I went out yesterday for my first ever bike ride on a Thursday, I'd been keeping Thursdays and Saturdays as total rest days so I don't over do it, but I decided I wanted to go out for a ride. I was joined in the very light drizzle by my eldest daughter, it was around 6:30am and before the heavier rain started.

I did 11.3 miles and arrived home without a dry piece of clothing on so I expected to feel like something smelly this morning. I had a lovely hot shower that warmed me back up.

Surprisingly, I feel fine, I came downstairs, sorted my running kit out and jumped on the treadmill, Week 4 run 3 just seemed to fly by so I start on week 5 on Monday. I may not go for a ride next Thursday so my legs are then fresh for week 5 run 3.

Heart rate average 132, that's 2 down on Wednesdays run and 6 down on Mondays and I finished the last minute at a run not a jog.

Garmin training effort (I normally use this metric to make me feel like I really am trying, even though I know I am): 3.0

Garmin recovery time: 19 hours.

Garmin RHR: 56 bpm

When I went through the program last year I don't think my RHR was this low this early in the program, I think the cycling mixed with the running has helped lower this quicker.

I'm not shifting weight as fast this time either, my diet isn't as strict but I know my body is changing shape, anyone using running to lose weight please don't go by the scales, measure yourself before you start and then keep track of those measurements. I wish I'd have done this when I started this time around, I was going to but then forgot.

I really can't wait to get back on the solid blocks of running, I'd like to get back to running for an hour before mid-late September if possible with an eye on getting back onto JuJu's magic plan.

Happy running everyone.

All sounds as though it is going really well LeeU.👍 Although I tend to run more by how I feel - I find it hard not to look at my Garmin stats! Certainly, yours sound very impressive! Good luck with smashing W5!🙂

I stopped looking at my watch as I run or ride, I know when my heartrate is getting up there and adapt my running/riding to try to bring it down, which I'm normally able to do.

I'm a numbers guy, I work in IT and go by numbers, I can't help but look at the number after I've finished running, riding, etc. I even compare this years runs to last years as I'm about on the same run as this time last year.

I can tell the difference the cycling has made, true I've not lost as much weight but my legs are beefing up nicely.
