W1R2 nerves

I completed my first run on Monday, it was really tough and I didn’t think I would finish but I did!

Now I am due to do run 2 this morning and I’m terrified! I seem to have some mental block, just the thought of going through that struggle again is making me want to go back to bed. Why am I so scared??? I can feel myself looking for excuses not to go!

I’ve just finished week 1 and it wasn’t easy but I’ve done it and the feeling after a run outweighs the negatives beforehand.

Maybe find a podcast to listen to during the run, some thing you can really get into then the time will fly by.

I’m worrying about week 2 now! I think it’s normal to be nervous about it and it only means you care about what you are doing x

Good luck.

Thanks.

I think it would be easier if I could just get up and go. Unfortunately I have to wait for my husband to get out of bed to watch our 2 year old. The little one has had me up since 5 this morning so nothing to do except get more nervous lol

If it helps, I feel nervous too! It’s horrible just waiting to get out there and get it done! I feel nervous during the warm up walk. But it’s half an hour out of your day and you’re gonna feel great after! Am a sweaty mess now! But I don’t care! My plan is to start each new week on a Friday! Then 2 day recovery over weekend then finish Monday and Weds! I don’t like the thought of having a new run playin on my mind over the weekend! YOU CAN DO THIS! You know you can! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Hi just got back from my wk5 run 2 and I can tell you I felt the same on wk1 the first week was the hardest but you can do it 😀 just get yourself out the door and once you get started you will be fine but the feeling once you get back having done it will be much better than how you are feeling now. Push the worries away and good luck 👍🏃‍♀️

Do it. You can do it. I did run W1R2 on Monday. Someone on here said to drink lots of fluids. I drank nearly 2.5 litres of water on Monday and didn’t feel as achy yesterday. Just completed W1R3! Lots of luck to you. Xx

It will get easier, each week just gets better and better. You will always find excuses, I have a 3 year old who is up at 6 every morning now but you can fit it in and you can do it! I’m on week 8 run 3 next and I was feeling just like you, the fear does fade and you will feel so good for getting out there! Good luck!

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

You will benefit from following the link in the guide to the post about mental approach.

This should be fun, not some kind of torture, or you will never persist.

If you are struggling just slow down.

Enjoy your journey.

Well I did it! Run 2 complete. I have no idea what I was so worried about. It was easier than last time I even had enough energy left to pick up the pace a bit on the last run. Thank you all so much for the encouragement I’m shocked that I actually enjoyed that and feel fantastic for not wimping out! 🤗

In what way was it tough? Mentally or physical? If physical, what were you symptoms?

Right now, the most important thing is get into the habit of getting out of the door, ready to go and doing it.

This should help you:

Once I was out the door it was more tough physically. I have started getting sharp pains in my shins of all places! And my knees were quite tender whilst running on the path around the park so I started running on the grass which seemed to help.

Stick to the grass for now and make sure you're wearing some proper running shoes.

Not what you're looking for?
