This felt like W1R1 in a way which I’m sure it’s supposed to. The small increase in time didn’t seem much in theory but in practice it was.
Even though this is very early in my journey while running I couldn’t help but think about wether it’s mental attitude or physical condition that get you through. I was definitely having to pep talk myself in the last 2 runs to finish them.
But the relief and sense of accomplishment when I’m finished is something I’m starting to enjoy and look forward to.
Before this run I read some other posts and was interested to read about people’s expectations of C25K and wether or not the title is misleading - ie you don’t run 5k in 30 mins. I became a bit disheartened at this because I too thought a 5k was a good goal. But then on my five min warm down walk (huffing, puffing, and sweating) I realised that FOR ME the programme/app is already working. It’s getting me out every other day. And I don’t want to let it down or myself.
While on today’s run I saw an elderly lady walking laps of the park and was inspired - if she can do it then I can too. A bit later I saw a dog with two wheels instead of his back legs and again the same thought went through my head. Strange how things make you feel.
Thanks for keeping me going

Sounds like you're doing great. It's a good question re mental vs physical.
In my experience, when we've run the program at work (7 times now) we've had all shapes, sizes, ages and ability. As long as the pace is appropriate, and we use 3 run leaders - back of the pack, middle and front, then nearly everyone is capable of completing it. I've only seen 1 person not do it and that was someone who was obese, but more importantly, just gave up - didn't have the heart to carry through with it, which was disappointing.
I shall keep repeating it, that unless you're clinically obese or have another limiting condition, then C25K is achievable for anyone - the body is capable of so much more than we *think*.
In other words, we are limited by our imagination, our mindset. C25K, like any progressive exercise program, is all about mindset. A mental test. Get the basics right (ie pace) and you'll get through it, no problem. Yes, there maybe a few difficult moments ahead, but never give up.
I am aware of my pace and not wanting to go too fast - rather complete the session than end up pausing or stopping the session as I did this time last week. I’ve definitely learnt that.
Crucially I’m keen to continue this fitness plan and not give up - which is the most important thing for me at the moment
Great to hear - sounds like you have the bug. Have you got appropriate footwear? It's really important, especially for a beginner and for someone with a bit of excess to shed
Currently using asics gel lyte v as they are the trainers I had here. May treat myself to a new pair somewhere along the journey!
Hi there, well done for keeping going. I am not far in front of you and also struggle with motivation. I have chosen to do each run twice before moving on as I was struggling so much. It’s going to take me ages but like you at least I am off the chair! I was struggling so much and after reading some of the info on here, I slowed right down and the lightbulb came on! I am really struggling with knee pain, so totally advise that you look at the exercise plans to supplement the running. I have never had issues before but am carrying more weight atm so doubt that helps for me even with running shop trainer fitting. Keep it up, you are doing great!
