So an hour ago I was sat on the sofa really not looking forward to going out for the second run! But I read some of your posts and comments and went out! In particular I find the pace debate interesting. For me I find I put myself under pressure to run fast. That in turn makes it harder and less enjoyable. Having read all the comments about not going too fast I took that mentality out with me and when I deliberately slowed down / stopped beating myself up about pace I enjoyed it a lot more, as it felt easier. At times it even felt like jogging could be enjoyable!!!! Once I can run for longer though I still think that I will want to look to not be as slow but for now I will try to accept that I am at the beginning of a journey and cut myself some slack! Now I can enjoy my Sunday knowing I’ve earned a rest day!
W1R2 done!: So an hour ago I was sat on the sofa... - Couch to 5K
W1R2 done!
Well done! I was the same and wanted my pace to be faster, but it will come over time. Onwards and upwards from here
I remember when I was staring out. I struggled with 90 seconds running. Yet today I ran for 25 minutes. Massive achievement for me as I’ve never run before.
My husband was out walking the dogs at the same time I was running & when I got back he said he saw me & congratulated me on my speed & technique. So, all I’m saying is, go slow it will happen naturally. I promise ❤️xx
Well done.
There is a misconception that somebody running slowly is not doing themselves as much good as someone running flat out. The slow, easy conversational pace is the one at which your body adapts and develops, building stamina and the solid aerobic base required to run faster........it is what elite runners do for up to 80% of their running time.
It is also the pace at which you minimise your risk of injury.
On top of that slow runners live longer than fast runners and non runners womensrunning.competitor.co...
.....it is a no brainer really........
Thanks! I’ll do some more educating of myself to get that in to my head! It’s certainly more enjoyable. It just feels so hard to accept that I’m doing myself much good when I’m plodding. Once today when the podcast said stop running I laughed out load as I swear my transition from running to walking made no discernible difference to how quickly I was moving! Lol. However I will bow to the wisdom of you all who have much more experience than me. In the mean time I’m just very happy that I forced myself out for run 2.
Well done!.... I’m just heading into week 5 so far from accomplished but the feel good factor and sense of achievement is ace isn’t it?
Great job. There’s a time and a place for pushing up the pace... well done for recognising it. I decided to follow a coaches advice during lockdown and run easy to make it the best part of my day... and I’m really loving every run right now! You’re learning, and you’re on top of the runs now... both of which will continue to make you a better runner. Enjoy a well deserved day of rest, and of course that run on Monday.
Yeh you've got it and the pace will automatically improve along the journey, enjoy and stay with it we've all been there
