Week 5 run 3 fail

Today was my week 5 run 3 , 20 minute run. I was feeling very nervous as it’s a big step up from 8 minutes. I only managed 12 minutes without having to stop , all in all I must of had to walk for 1 minute. Did anyone else struggle with this run? I’m feeling really deflated right now.

12/20mins that's more than half way. I think if you slowed down for next time you can run for longer. You got this, and it's not a fail, you got 60% success!

Don’t be deflated! Consider it a practise run, and try again after your rest day. Better to do 12 minutes than be sitting on your couch :) well done regardless!

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

We don't use the Fword on this forum.

Have a rest day, rest well, hydrate as recommended in the guide, eat well and give it another go, but a bit slower this time.

Enjoy your journey.

12 minutes... your longest non-stop run... no way the F word belongs anywhere near that! Relax before you run, tell yourself you can do it, start deliberately slower and keep the pace down, especially in the first half. The other outstanding thing here is you say you only had to walk for a minute “all in all” which tells me you went again... so, while you didn’t complete the non-stop bit this time, you didn’t go home, you kept going and got even more running done. All of that adds to your fitness for the next run... and says you have exactly what you need to accomplish anything. Look at where you were a couple of months ago... look at where you are now... and be proud.

Don’t be deflated- we all have faltering days. You’ve got as far as week 5 - it has taken me 3 attempts at the plan to get that far. Rest day - try again.

But I know how you feel when a run isn’t completed. Happened in my wk3. Thought 5 minutes was forever - but a couple of weeks later and we’re doing 10+ mins. We’ll get there eventually

Hope this helps...

I tried running with my 5yo daughter in the morning. She lasted 6 mins so we had to come home. Tried again with both the kids scootering but rain came down and one of them needed the loo after 12 mins. Later in the day I decided to run the 20 mins in the night once the kids were in bed. The 12 min run gave me confidence that I could do it - remember, it’s all in the head. Give yourself a break and go again. I think you’ll do it next time. 👍

Thank you everyone , you’ve all made me feel so much better! I’m determined to complete it , I think I went to fast and already had it in my head i wouldn’t be able to do it before I even started. Positive thoughts from now on and even if I can progress minute by minute I will get there! 5 weeks ago I struggled with 60 seconds. Thank you all so much 🥰

Yep

I did the same

I just couldn’t run anymore (or so I thought) walked for roughly a minute then got back to it

I’m now on w8 running for 28 minutes

Me personally I have a battle with my head not my body

It constantly tells me I can’t do it and I need to stop but honestly I just slow it down and once you get your rhythm going you don’t even realise how long you have run for

Another tip I use it NOT to look at

my watch

To see how long I had left to run and just played some up lifting tunes and zoned out

Thank you for your reply. Well done on getting to week 8!! I completely agree , it’s definitely my head that tells me I can’t do it more than tired legs. I’m going to try agin tomorrow and just take it really slow.

Good luck on your journey , your so close now!!

From my perspective, having just completed week four, I am awe of anyone who can run for 12 minutes! Seriously, don’t put yourself down, it’s a real achievement, and you’ll get to 20 mins.
