80+ and getting fitter

I am sure I am above average age for people embarking on C25K, but certainly not the oldest. Please reassure me we are not all crazy. I am a champion at laziness, but lack the persistence to sit on a couch for hours on end.

Actually I far prefer playing my cello, which is difficult on a sofa, and impossible while running.

No you can't play the cello while running, the oldest person to start C25K was aged 83, I wish you luck on starting your running journey with C25K, remember to drink plenty of water the day before you run and some before, you can repeat any runs or week's if you wish to, no running on consecutive days as that could cause a injury, if you wish to report on your runs to this forum you may do so.

I feel so very much encouraged now. Only just discovered C25K. And the first member I encounter is an Octogenarian.!!! I’m 67yrs old and thought that’d be pushing it. Thank you Ringla. My confidence has increased somewhat.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

It is never too late

Enjoy your journey.

Good luck to you, you’re not crazy at all, I’m going to follow you to see how you get on, not literally follow you, that would be creepy 😜 Take it nice and slow with the jogging and you’ll do just fine 👍

I'm also a cellist. I haven't tried to run with the cello - but I think running is similar to playing in that, when you're running, you get a sense of focus on that one activity in just the same way you do when you've spent ages trying to get a piece of music to sit well under your fingers. I hope you enjoy the programme, it is a really good experience.
