After some advice if anyone has any, last week after I ran week 8 run 1 I developed a sharp pain on the interior of my ankle. I’ve tried to rest it as much as I can (2 toddlers at home) but the pain is not subsiding at all. It feels very tender to touch, no swelling at all. I’ve tried ice packs, ibuprofen tablets and gel, naproxen and nothing is shifting the pain. I’m gutted I haven’t been able to run, especially so close to the end. Has anyone had anything similar? Am I looking at weeks recovery? One thing I am definitely going to do is the gait analysis, once I can actually run again 😫☹️

Frustrated with injury
I lightly turned my ankle a while back and it was nearly a month before I ran again. Ankles have relatively poor blood supply, so are slow to heal.
In my case, my physio friend suggested cycling as a way of keeping the joint mobile, improving blood flow and maintaining fitness without loading it.
Follow the PRICE principles as linked to in the guide to the plan.
You will return..........take care.
Ouch ! Having had an ankle injury myself I know how painful and frustrating they can be. I did mine about four weeks after graduation, not sure what I did but think I damaged the tendon from running on uneven roads and wearing shoes with inadequate support. Not saying my injury is the same as yours (in fact I had lots of swelling also) but lots of ice and rest (if you can) as it was weeks before I could even walk properly on mine. I reckon it was 8-10 weeks before I ran again and then had to start at 2km to rebuild fitness/stamina. All ok now, but new shoes help a lot, certainly get a gait analysis done! Not trying to say your road to recovery will be as long as mine as it probably a completely different injury, I would say however to rest it fully and start again slowly. Think I tried to rush my recovery, which didn’t help!
Thank you for the replies, I guess I need to prepare my self for this been longer than the few days I was hoping for ☹️. Definitely investing in new shoes ready for when I can get going again. And may also invest in an exercise bike to keep me active and hopefully help my ankle heel. Absolutely gutted at getting this far and having to stop 😔
This sounds to me like a ligament strain which can be quite frustrating because ligaments dont really have too much of a blood supply to it. It may be worth visiting a sports therapist who can help with the surrounding muscles and give you some advice about ligamentous strain.
