I am not a novice and I've kidded myself that I can still run ok... just because I used to for years through my 20s and early 30s but I've gradually dropped off... I've maintained being active being drawn to different outdoor pursuits and kinda left running behind. But turning 40 I felt the urge to just to be able to run 5k again comfortably, increase my fitness, challenging myself, have a goal during the pandemic and make good use of an Aussie winter!
