I’m currently on week 3 (amazed how much I’m enjoying it so far) to keep me motivated and encouraged my hubby has suggested I treat myself to some new trainers. I’m using an old pair of Asics galaxy gels from years ago. They are comfortable and I think do the job but they are getting a bit tatty and I like the idea of treating myself when I complete wk 5 as a reward for running for 20mins as I’m already getting nervous about it.
I’ve read a bit about a gait test but I’m guessing I can’t get this done at the moment. Should I wait or anyone got any particular brand/style suggestions?

I bought new trainers a few weeks ago having been wearing 11 year old trainers which I bought to do a moonwalk. I’ve got quite wide feet so decided to stick to the same brand. I found a gait test that you can do online which somebody on here recommended. I think the Brookes website has it. I wasn’t actually brave enough to wear them to run in case they caused my feet to rub or gave me blisters. I’ve only started wearing them this week now that I have graduated and I think they’ve made an amazing difference as my 2 consolidation runs have been brilliant and I’m running much faster/further without really trying, so I’ll get to 5k in a few weeks
I have a running shop near me and they’re still doing gait tests virtually by someone filming while you’re running from a particular distance. Worth asking a specialise shop as they’re probably doing the same? This is what I’m doing 😊
Bear in mind that if you are not road running, you're looking for trail running shoes and gait analysis doesn't inform the choice of those (as your ankles are doing all sorts rather than a consistent 'tendency')
Do consider a minimalist shoe - you'll read a lot of stuff about 'transitioning' to them which is really directed at people who have been running regularly in shoes with thick soles and bigger heel to toe drops, rather than a beginner. I treated myself to new shoes at about the same point as you (having run in lightweight walking boots) - I wasn't consciously looking for minimalist at that point but I have stuck with it - the worst shoes I ever had were specialist fitted, not so minimalist, most expensive and my knees knocked together and I had trouble staying upright let alone the aches and pains afterwards.
