Can anyone recommend a good running trainer. Not too expensive. I wear sketchers at the mo but I think they are more for walking than running.

Yes Asics are a good brand. I have a pair of really cheap Asics (Gel Exhalt - 35€) as well as top of the range Asics (Gel Nimbus - 200€). The cheap Exhalt ones are fine for training and very comfortable plus good value. The more expensive ones are my race shoes (for longer distances). For c25k the cheapest Asics are a great choice. You can upgrade later if you decide to run 5-10km plus or do a half marathon.

it's difficult to make a recommendation as everyone's feet, running style etc. are different. i'd strongly recommend finding a running shop that can analyse your running style (gait analysis) for you to ensure you buy the right shoes. a reputable shop should offer this for free and if you tell them your budget they should find a shoe to match. i have wasted money buying new shoes online or have ended up wearing poorly fitting shoes. Good luck finding the right shoe.

My favourite shoes might be so inappropriate for you that they could cause you injury..........have a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop.

I had some old cheap Asics that got me started, but had a gait analysis and on that advice spent money on a good pair of supportive shoes (Asics again) in week 2. I have had ankle and knee injuries in the past, and know I walk skewiff because of the way the heels on my regular shoes wear, so figured it was best to get this done early and try to avoid further injury. I’m so glad I did...
