Knee pain Day 1 Minute 1!!

Hey guys. I'm new here. First day of running today after many years on the couch. I had instantaneous sharp pains in both kneecaps. Almost unbearable. I got off the road and onto the grass. The same pain. Fitness/Weight/Health is no issue. Any advice??

First thought, did you just set off too fast? A slow steady jog is a good starting point, and minimise your impact with the ground.

There's lots of info online about how your foot strikes the ground with tips on how to reduce the impact which might help.

Welcome to the forum and well done on attempting to get started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

The fact that it occurred so early makes me suspect that you have a structural issue that may need addressing, but the advice in the guide will tell you how to approach this and hopefully avoid a recurrence.

Enjoy your journey.

Cheers for that. The guide is a great place for me to start.

I'm also thinking something (possibly) structural.

The road to discovery!
