W8R1 First injury

Been a little quiet these past few weeks, but have kept going and complected W7 over a week ago. Went out Sunday to start W8 and did the usual pre warm-up, right calf felt tight but kept going and got half way but had to stop as it was painful. Couldn't re-start so abandoned the run and on the way back it popped. I presume its a calf tear, does anyone know if any physio would aid recovery? Also wondered if the gap between runs had put me at more risk of injury? Although I know my calves were the one area I did feel it in before but always stretched. Found a good link to some stretches/strengthening exercise for calves as well. So that's me done now for at least a couple of weeks.

Hi Poca. I’m no physio but I had a lot of issues with tight calf’s a lot throughout the runs. If you’re doing all the stretches etc. I would suggest taking some anti inflammatories for a couple of days and then maybe try rolling it out if it’s not too painful. I know my injury was less serious than a tear because it was better with a few days rest, the roller really did make all the difference for me. Hope you’re recovery isn’t too long

Hi, as I work in the NHS I managed to get a physio telephone consultation which was really helpful. I've got few simple stretches and strengthening to do. It did seem to ease off yesterday , but in my haste to go upstairs I wrenched it and it was sooo painful (ouch) just a big reminder to take it easy and do the exercises. Thanks for your support
