I expected to be relatively achey today, but after my walk today (about an hour) my shins are sore. Is this normal?

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
Enjoy your journey.

Just to say, I had sore shins up until week 4, and found that stretching before and after running and walking really helped. Also got new running shoes as I was running in my old walking shoes 🤦♀️....hadn’t planned that very well.
Same thing happened with me. Decent trainers solved it and they are worth it ASAP - you can actually damage yourself without the right gear and be put off your running altogether . Goodluck! Invest! X
