Having messed up my knee on run 7-1 I can now walk without a limp so feeling quite positive. However it still plays up if I attempt to run at all so the C25k is most definitely on hold. I thought Japanese slow running might help but tried in the garden and my knee didn’t like that either!! Today I thought I would get my road bike out, and had a wonderful 18 mile cycle with no more knee pain than when I am walking. It was wonderful to fly down hills at nearly 30mph with the sun shining and it cheered me up no end! I highly recommend cycling to anyone, especially those currently nursing a knee injury 🚴♀️
Still can’t run but I can cycle! : Having messed... - Couch to 5K
Still can’t run but I can cycle!
Glad to hear that at least you were able to cycle. Sorry to hear about your knee, hope it’s not too long before you’re able to run again. Wise to leave it for now. It just shows you how different the movement on the joints are between running and cycling. Take care and enjoy your cycling 🚵♀️
Good 🚴 cycle ride for you today AlysP, 30 mph is very fast on a bike, I know a downhill which is fairly straight and cycled down that at 25mph, at times it feels a little dangerous say if anything crossed the road in front of you.
I have been a cyclist since I was 7 but only took up running with C25K in April 2018 after I cut down the cycling around 3 years ago, I have not completely given up the bike, I go for a bike ride now once a week, do a 5K or 6/10K run twice a week and go for a walk at least 6 days a week so I am still getting my exercises done.
Thanks for your reply- that is exactly what I was doing until a week ago and hope to do again.! The perfect combo in my opinion😀Have you done the Prudential 100? If not you should as it’s amazing! 100 miles, closed roads, through London and Surrey. I have done it three times now- last year was my last though - cutting back to more sensible cycling!! My idea was to do cycling once or twice a week, and half hour runs twice a week ( off road) with the dogs. I walk them daily anyway so might as well run sometimes! Today I start the strengthening exercises to help my knees- fingers crossed I can get back to running at some point. Best of luck with your 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️ 😀
Nice reply from you AlysP, no I have not cycled the Prudential 100, I live in Central Scotland so London and Surrey are quite a distance from where I live, even in the peak of my cycling days 100 miles would have been a bit too far for me, 50 miles was the longest distance I cycled at any one time.
I went a 21K/13 miles 🚴 cycle ride this morning, the aim of that was that IF and its a big IF I ever ran a HM I would know where the run ended, just by sheer coincidence my cycle ride of 21K ended at the same point as the local 10K run and our local Santa Dash run at Christmas finishes, I could imagine all the people cheering me on the last 50 meters😊🎉, anyway I very much doubt that I will ever RUN🏃🏾that same distance as I cycled this morning, but you never know. 😊 🏃🏾 🚲
Quite right.
Cycling will keep joint mobile, improve blood flow, thus aiding repair and help with cardio and leg muscles.............but it doesn't give the buzz of running...... not to me at least.
You will return.
