I just had to Run !!!

So, I ran a 5k on Thursday which was my first run in 13 days !

After about 2.5 to 3k my knees started to ache (it's the first time this has happened at that distance)

It was just a niggle so carried on to the 5k.

That night they were quite sore.

And ached most of Friday morning.

I went for a short walk on Friday afternoon and the felt ok , great I thought !

I can run again Saturday morning !

Woke up today at 5:30 and left knee was aching so decided not to run .

I was quite disappointed.

Spent most of the morning reading all the posts from the forums with everybody running and I felt guilty as I hadn't .

So, did some stretches and my knee was ok .

At 3pm I decided I would run , !

I'm not bothered about time or distance , all I want is to be able to run without my knees hurting .

So off I go

1k all ok 2k, 3k still no problems onto 4 and then 5k, albeit quite slowly but I managed without even a twinge !

Very happy

And also happy to have run twice again in 3 days πŸ™‚

So pleased, Ian! A new experience for you running in the afternoon. I’ve never done that! Good to know your knee didn’t play up πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

Thanks Julia , im relieved about the knee, and quite enjoyed being out in the afternoon.

More than ever, I'm happy to have done a couple of runs within 3 days .

I actually think it was the lack of running that was the cause of the knee issue !

Maybe you’re right about the knee issue πŸ˜‚. I’m glad you were able to run twice in 3 days, that’s such good news. I might consider running in the afternoon. I could do with some enjoyment right now 😬

Yes, trust me , I know what you mean !

My HR looked high on Garmin connect πŸ€”

Didn't feel any different so probably watch fitting issue !

I did notice it once before when sat watching TV, my own reading was about 30bpm lower

I don’t take too much notice and just run at a conversational pace for most of the time πŸ™‚

Instructor57 profile image

That's what I always do.

I never monitor it on the run.

You used to be glued to it πŸ˜‚

Well done in getting out and doing 5km with nothing from your knees. πŸ‘

There's no guilt in preventing an injury from getting worse.

I felt much the same during the four weeks I was on the injury couch and reading about other folks' runs.

Thanks , yeah your right .

But as we both know, it's tough when your not running,

BTW, I was 170m shy of 5km this morning. I was running to the clock, not to distance, so didn't know how far I'd run until I got home.

Oh good !

I'll go read your post πŸ™‚πŸ‘

Oh that's just brilliant! You got motivated! It was a beatiful day here, din't know about where you are, but just lovely to go and run.

Am convinced our knee aches are colder weather related. It seems odd that it crept up on us both at the same time!

We'll see. Mine are a bit achey now after my run, but I'm not particularly worried.

Thanks , yes I just said to jools, I think my 13 days inactivity didn't help .

But yes, strange we both had these knee niggles around the same time ,

And the afternoon run was quite nice 😁

Good run for you today Instructor57, I have just been looking at the rates of VO2Max on Garmin Watches, at 37VO2 max for your age group, your health is very good,

Thanks Al, my vo2max had actually be dropped by 1 😐 haha

To be honest, I don't pay too much attention to it 😁

So glad your knee was OK and you managed to get out and run on such a beautiful day. Two runs in three days that is great
