At what point do you know you're ready to progress to the next week

Hi all! This is my first post on here so hello all!

I completed run 3 of week 1 yesterday 🥳🥳🙌 HOWEVER I am still really shattered by the end of the 60 seconds runs and the thought of doing even longer fills me with dread. Do I push through and start week 2 now or do I do a few more repetitions of week 1 till I feel a bit fitter? Any advice appreciated.

I am 29 but quite a few stone overweight and haven't run since before my wedding about 6 years ago. Taken the opportunity with coronavirus to improve my eating habits and lifestyle.

There is no harm in repeating weeks - many people do. And if you're overweight, then sometimes better to be over-cautious rather than to plough on.

BUT... if you've completed Week 1 then that gives you the fitness to complete Week 2. And so on.

Mantra: every run you do prepares you for the next one.

Remember to keep the pace very very slow in such a way that you are breathing *comfortably*.

Try this:

Ahh the Japanese slow jog. I read about this only a few days ago and meant to look this up.

Thanks for the slow jog video I’ll try that next run.

Hi

Congrats on completing week 1. Yeh I was the same to be fair. You're probably doing what I did. Running too fast. Soni shall give you a tip you want hear until week 3.

Imagine you're running alongside a hedge and someone in the other side can see your head bobbing up and down. Ideally, they shouldn't be able to tell if you're running or walking. Running in such a way that you are bobbing up and down uses a lot of energy. So slow down a little so you are at a gentle jog and you shouldn't be bobbing up and down.

The moment Sarah said this I slowed down, and I did a 3 minute run with ease. Today's run was easy. Easier than it was in week one or two and I was running for longer.

Hope that helps. Good luck for next week 🏃‍♀️

I didn't think I'd be able to do week 2 after 3 week 1 runs (18+ stone & in my 40s). However, I clicked the wrong button & did it anyway - I was genuinely surprised that I managed it! However, if I hadn't I would have reverted back to week 1. Do whatever you feel happy with but you might just surprise yourself too.

Congratulations on your progress so far.👏

I only ever repeated a run if I hadn't actually completed the last one. It's entirely up to you, but I'd try to keep moving on. You might surprise yourself, and if you don't make it, it was a practice run. 😉

Good luck

Honestly please take it from me. I HATED running, like literally despised it and found week 1 really tough too. I’m on week 3 and now I’m enjoying it?? It’s so weird!! Trust yourself you’ll do great!! Xxx

Thank you all!!! I decided to go for it and I actually found week 2 run easier...I think maybe it's because I took a different route which doesn't involve going up a steep bit of hill for my warm up walk (so wasnt completely knackered before I even started!!) Glad I decided to go for it...I feel really accomplished now xxx
