Well I give up trying to get out early to run!!! Everytime I think I early night and early morning something wakes me at 3.00am and then I can’t get back to sleep again and then I sleep in when I eventually drop off.
So at 9.00 this morning I set off and was hoping it wouldnt be too hot. There have been roadworks since last October at the end of the road I usually cut through on my way out of town and for months the right hand side has been open which means as Laura or whoever says “ Run” I have gone through there and just crossed the road and can turn right and run.
But last week they have shut that side of the end of the road and opened up the left and it means that the “Run “ comes before I get to the crossing which has put me out of sorts. This morning I managed to walk faster on my warm up and get across in time to start running but then there was a lady walking in front of me with headphones in and I had to shout “ excuse me please” twice before she nearly leapt out of her skin and moved over. Going this way means I now have to cross 3 roads to get to the same bit I usually cross so it meant my timings were off today. You know how Laura says “that’s 5 mins” etc and you are usually at a certain point ??? So everything was diferent this morning.
As it was later there were more people on the trail - several runners and a couple of dog walkers and a couple of cyclists too- all very cheery - lots of “good mornings” which was nice. I think we are all so pleased to see someone else lately... especially if you are in solitary like me.
I’d decided yesterday that I would change my run pattern and instead of running out halfway and then turning I’d do the whole run and then turn and walk back for a longer walk and cool down. So that’s what I did. Which HAD seemed like a good idea at the time. But I’d not thought about the long walk I’d gone for yesterday and then come back and done an hours Pilates where we concentrated on legs and hips with lots of use of the toning circle......
The run itself was fine - little bit slower than the last 2 but after a bad nights sleep I’ll take that. But when I stopped running and turned to walk back I realised just how tired my little leggies were. I was trundling along tiredly and another older chap was coming towards me on his run puffing and blowing and we exchanged hellos.
And then I walked all out round the far side of the town and turned back towards home and saw him again chatting socially distant to his friend. “ oh you’ve gone a long way “ he said. “ I’ve just started this running lark”. So I mentioned C25k. And then carried on home.
I have Pilates again tonight at 7.30 and Rachael asked if we have any requests. I said anything but legs!!!
Happy running and stay safe.
