W9R3....

I've only gone and done it! Grinning like a Cheshire cat. Breathing was always ok, but leg muscles get tired, but one thing I've learnt is that if my mind says I can do it, I usually can....

Congratulations on your graduation, fellow runner.

This guide to post C25k running may be helpful healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Heavy legs can be symptomatic of poor hydration. As a runner you need to drink 2.5 -3 litres of fluid each and every day, running or not, as mentioned in the guide.

Keep running, keep smiling

in reply toIannodaTruffe

I thought it was because I'm carrying extra weight, I make sure i drink a pint before I go out for a run, and usually a pint when I get back home...

Brilliant! Well done 😊

9 weeks ago I would have scoffed at the idea, now I make a point of changing into running gear, after all, I think I can call myself a runner now, lol

Hey that’s great ,so pleased for you .onwards and upwards 10k next ?

in reply to

Er, very much doubt it... 30 mins takes me to just 3.6km, so I know I'm on the slow side. Will just keep repeating the 30 mins every other day to try and increase the speed some... over the summer I'm hoping some more weight off will help , after all these legs are having to carry a fair bit of weight. One stone off in 9 weeks, long may it continue.....

in reply to

That’s a lovely new shiny graduate badge you have there

in reply to

Not long before you get yours !!!!!

in reply to

Week 8 r 3 tomorrow, so not long to go now

Congratulations! 🎉🎓 Enjoy consolidating now and discovering where your new runner's legs take you....😊🏃‍♀️

in reply to

Thanks, was rather pleased, shows that even old farts like me can do it, not just the young ones. When all this virus stuff is done, will look to joining a running group, preferably one that runs over the south downs!

in reply to

You must be near me then - the South Downs is my neck of the woods, so hello neighbour! 😊🏃‍♀️

I'm Eastbourne, so it's sea front running at the mo, I have a running pal, my mini Doberman pincer, he's a good lad, he's gets sniffs round the park when we're done

Well done! Yes, mind over matter helps! Enjoy your runs!

in reply toRoxdog

When I started it was the mind that kept getting in the way, I can't possibly do 3 mins, no way can I manage 5 mins, your joking that you expect me to run 20 mins all in one go.... funny I always managed it... thats the stubborn streak I have

Congratulations! 👏👏👏 Your success is also inspiring to me since you mention age, weight and heavy legs. I’m currently repeating W3 and yesterday managed to run 3” non-stop but only once, I couldnt manage the second time without a pause. My problem is hardened arteries from smoking, I’m hoping it will ease. Well done again on graduation and best wishes for all your future runs! 💪👍

in reply toGrampaSimon

Thanking you, it's these pages and comments that helped me through too. I used to smoke, swapped to vaping 4 years ago. That's why I keep commenting that my breathing is ok, which came a s a bit of a surprise. Expected to be huffing and puffing, but no... keep at it, sometimes it's the mind that's telling you I can't do it....

GrampaSimon profile image
GrampaSimon in reply to

Great to know that your breathing is strong for running. Did/do you ever get tight cramps in your calves because of poor circulation from smoking? And if so did that get get better with practice? This is my main problem just now.

in reply toGrampaSimon

I didnt get cramps in my calves, I had bother with shin splints, but once I was advised to take shorter steps, so your land with your feet under you as such, I've not had a bother, also drink a pint of water before I go out

GrampaSimon profile image
GrampaSimon in reply to

Helpful, thanks. I had shin splints a previous time I got off the couch, it’s different this time. Just see how I can work through it I guess. Good luck with your next goals!

Hey well done I graduated this week as well it’s a great feeling 🎉 oh and I can only do 3km in 30mins 😉 Enjoy your moment 💪

in reply to

Ah , ha, a fellow snail runner. I see these peeps bouncing by with their quicker running, but think, I'm doing well for me personally, I'm not a spring chicken, couldent run across a road, 9 weeks ago....look at me now, keeping going for 30 mins
