Oh dear..... I have shin splints again (medial tibial stress syndrome) but I'm feeling mindful and accepting of the situation, which you tend to do when you have spent time on the injury couch before.
The caring fairy π§ββοΈ that Nilsam put on my shoulder a few weeks ago (we have since called her Belle, distant relative of Nilsam's Nelle I think) has come back to visit and is talking all sorts of common sense, thank goodness.... regular ice-packs, strengthening exercise ππΌββοΈ, no running, gentle dog walks πΎ, alternative exercise, pottering in the garden πΈπΌ .....
..... This morning I did yoga again with my teenage daughter, who has joined me in my practice during lockdown π§πΌββοΈπ§πΌββοΈ π. We have decided to do yoga at least once a day whilst I am not running, so today we did another Yoga with Adriene, using one of the sessions on her April calendar. It is so lovely to have a baby yogi in the family - I am loving her doing this alongside me! Hopefully I can convince her to keep going once lockdown is all over.
I don't know how shin splints react to cycling π²? Anyone have any experience of this? I'd love to try but only if it's not going to cause any aggravation.
Enjoy your runs everyone, keep safe ππββοΈπ³π
Ohhhhhh DD that hurts hopefully nilsams fairy will aid mending speedily, regarding the cycling it'll maintain your fitness just........ Go easy treat it gently it's obviously less impact but don't go throwing those pedals around with too much resistance
Healing hugs from Wales π€

Thank you for the good wishes and the cycling advice. Note taken regarding resistance, so I shall try to find a reasonably level route.
Sorry I don't know the answer to your question but I am also doing Yoga with Adrienne! Another good one is Sarah Beth and if you want long deep stretches (rest day only) Yin yoga with Kassandra is next level stretching. Enjoy x
Thank you so much for the yoga recommendations - I shall definitely check them out. I love doing Adriene's yoga sessions and think her calendar is a brilliant idea. I'm really missing my yoga classes so Adriene has been a Godsend. Happy yoga ππ§πΌββοΈ
Oh no Delly-Dot! Bad luck, but you seem to have a sensible plan. If you've had the issue before, I expect you have some good exercises to do and will be back to running soon I hope!
I have sciatica from my left glute muscle at the moment, but running seems to improve it - it's all the sitting down which wreaks havoc!
Oh no Delly Dot...can't bear it and you were doing so well too....I think the cycling is a very good alternative. It is not weight bearing so you should be fine. The Yoga is a very good idea and maybe some Pilates as well? Keep those muscles stretched for when the shins have healed. I would up your Vitamin D with a bit of sunbathing in this weather. Enjoy the cycling and take care. Virtual hugs from Hampshire
Fortunately I'm able to keep doing my weekly Pilates classes via Zoom with my instructor, who is also a physio, so I shall be picking his brain for more tips tomorrow.
I love the tip about the sun-bathing! Gives me an excuse to sit back and enjoy the garden without feeling guilty! When my hubby asks what I'm doing I shall tell him it's my daily dose of Vit D π.
Sorry to hear this Delly-dot just when u got graduated, hopefully not be long before you can get back out there. Good to hear all the other things s ur doing instead.
Thank you Shar. The upside is that my daughter and I are doing our yoga together, which is lovely. I shall keep posting on here and hopefully it won't be too long before I'm back running.
The dreaded IC!!! I'm feeling a little more relaxed about it this time as I'm now the other side of graduation, but it's a shame and I can't deny that I'm not just a little fed up. But, it is what it is and my sensible head took charge of my ambition and reined me in.
So, daily yoga, Pilates and icing at regular intervals it is then, for the time being..... ππ§πΌββοΈπΈ
I am so sorry to hear about your pains but thrilled that you are listening to your care fairy, Belleπ§ββοΈand you are resting up on the running.
What a bonus outcome to end up doing yoga with your daughter...π§πΌββοΈπ€π§πΌββοΈ So lovely to practice together.π§ββοΈ It is time that so well spent with teenagers. She will learn skills that will set her up for life and strengthen that bond between you.
Thank you Nilsam for your lovely words. In the grand scheme of things this is so unimportant and just a little set back; I have lots of other lovely things to do and yoga with my daughter being a real bonus.
Right, I'm off to grab that ice-pack and, as I'm not running tomorrow, a second glass of wine.... π
Keep safe and happy running. I shall be popping up on here to say hello from the IC xx
Oh no! What a shame so soon after finishing the programme. Hope the healing fairy works her magic quickly! I will look forward to hearing your adventures when you are back in action. Obviously NOT on the couch, by the sounds of it! Good for you seeking out and alternative.
Thank you Fionamags. I am missing my runs but am enjoying my yoga in the meantime. I've yet to try the cycling. Hopefully it won't be too long before I'm running again but I won't be rushing it as I know I mustn't run before it's healed up properly.
Oh Delly-dot Iβm so sorry to hear that. Pleased for you that it was at least the right side of graduation this time. Sounds like you have done nice plans to help you through - cycling, yoga with your daughter and some very βstrenuousβ efforts to get your vitamin D. Hope you get your trainers back on soon
Thank you π. Yes, at least I'm through graduation! I would have been really frustrated if it had happened before. Hopefully I'll be back running as soon as possible. You are doing really well - just a few more weeks to go!
