Are my knees knackered!

Hi all,

Just completed W3/R1 and loving it.

This morning (post run night) I’ve noticed my knees hurt and feel a bit ‘weak’.

Is this normal, or is it something that’s only going to get worse the more I run?

As much as I enjoy my running, I don’t want to risk having duff knees long term.

I should add. Running (or any other high intensity excercise) is new to me, although I’ve done a lot of fell walking in the past.

Hi congratulations on getting this far 👍

it could just be your body getting over the shock of the extra running, it could be bio mechanical. Do you have proper running footwear? That will make a big difference.

May be worth getting gait analysis done before it becomes a bigger issue. If you have pain then Drs or physio.

As with any new activity various bits will complain at some point so maybe look at the strength and flex program as well?

Hope all goes well. Happy running x

Well done on your progress.

What you're feeling in your knees is a message that's telling you that your running is putting some strains on your body (which is to be expected). It's worth doing the recommended strengthening exercises alongside C25K. I did these and after a week never felt anything in my knees since.

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and will answer most of your questions.

Long-term running will strengthen your knees and only ruin them if you persist in running multiple marathons every year. That is if you have appropriate footwear. Follow the link in the guide about shoes if you have any doubts about how well you are short.

Enjoy your journey.

Normal. Ibuprofen an hour before running (and in between - I could hardly walk at times!). It’ll go in a week or so 👌🏽

Hi

Are you eating well to allow for the extra nutrition your body needs? Cod liver oil, protein etc?

You don't need extra nutrition to do C25K if you have a normal balanced diet.
