W8R2 - Dont go in the Mid-Day Sun

Jacqui_tries_again50 profile image

Got home today after running at 1330 and had a dry vomit. Def heat related so I will keep it to the morning or evening now. I wondered about using a podcast instead of my motivating music, as I am getting bored of the play list? Anyone else use podcasts? It felt hard today, I really wanted it over before the last 5 min warning came in...When does it become easy???

The heat makes running significantly harder🌞😩 - personally I much prefer running in the winter! 😀 That said, you will find that your body adapts to it as we get more warmer weather and of course we can help by dropping our pace, staying hydrated etc.As you continue to build up your fitness, you will find that you get more of those days where you feel stronger.💪 Bad runs? Tough runs? Yep, we all get them sometimes - keep going though, the next one will be better! 🤞 Happy running and stay safe.🙂🌈

Well done, you did it.

Are you taking on a minimum of 2.5-3 litres of fluids in the 24 hours before you run, as recommended in the guide to the plan?

Without that you will dehydrate rapidly in the heat.

When you are running for thirty minutes in a few weeks time, the run you did today will seem very easy.

Hope so, I am doing 28mins now, not sure how an extra 2 mins will help but I believe in the program

As a person who enjoys running in the heat (30c plus in the summer is a particular favourite) I can tell you that proper and continuous hydration is a must. Apart from that, run early in the day and keep to the shade with your hat on, if you need to. You don't want to be running in the midday sun, especially if not properly hydrated. It will get easier once you've reached certain target (say, 5K, for example) and you stick to it. The body will appreciate it. If you continue to push yourself, it will often be hard work. In the meantime, try and slow down to the best and most comfortable level of running.

I am a great believer in the podcast. Something to make me concentrate on it rather than my run. That way the last 5 minutes becomes a little easier. Depends what you like of course but I'm now listening to Girl Taken on the BBC Sounds app. Fiddle around and see what takes your fancy....enjoy! 😉

Umm, about two months after you graduate, at least it was for me. Just hang on in there though - it really is worth the effort!
