Hi All,

So I have downloaded the Couch to 5K app today in an attempt to become fitter and healthier. I have never ran before and am not at all in the best shape.

Was just looking for some tips to beat the nerves of starting and worrying about looking silly whilst out running? Also best ways to keep motivated!

Thank you x

Hi TotalBeginner96 , well done for making the first steps! I had never run before this programme either and was concerned about looking silly. But honestly the only looks I got were warm smiles of encouragement. I now have dog walkers and other runners nod in recognition as I go past no longer gasping for breath but jogging slowly and taking my time with my new hobby!!

Keep motivated by checking in on thus forum often and follow the tips on links shared by the Administrators - they will reply to you soon if not already 😉

Good luck! Let us know how you get on 😁

Best tip is to read all the exercise tips on the NHS website.

Pop in here for encouragement - very helpful bunch!

Good luck! 😀

Hi there. I also started the programme this week and felt similar before the first run as hadn’t been running for many years. I felt quite nervous before the first run and a bit self-conscious when I started but decided just to go for it, really enjoyed it and felt fine by the second run. Wishing you all the very best of luck and look forward to hearing how you get on 😊

Never ever feel embarrassed about running ,or feeling silly .your getting it done .just smile as you jog past in the mind set that I’m getting fittter

Don't be embarrassed for doing something good for yourself ! There should not be too many people around at the moment and by the time there are, you'll be enjoying yourself too much to care.

I found commiting to a run on this forum really helped. I felt I'd be letting people down if I didn't go out like I said I would. Everyone here is really supportive and always seem to find a positive in any of my posts. Even if I felt particularly miserable 😀. So put those trainers on and go . You won't regret it. Looking forward to reading about your progress. Happy running 💪🏃‍♀️
