Yesterday I finished the first five minutes of jogging struggling to catch my breath. It was hard.My first thought was: this way I won't be able to reach the twenty minutes mark without interruption. I'm doomed.
I know that the general recommendation of all of you is "slow down! And when you think you're going slow, go even slower!" Although it is excellent advice, and it helped me a lot in the first week, it is not as simple as it seems. Because (at least in my experience) when I imagine I'm already going slow enough, going slower still seems to overwhelm my legs, especially my calves.
And yet there I was, trying to find what would be an "easy, conversational pace" for me, thinking if I could really do it. (I was really thinking in those terms, in English, because I've only been reading and discussing the C25K around here, my running mind is anglophile, it seems, but I digress).
However, the shuffle mode of my playlist ended up helping me immensely. In the next 5 minutes run I was given the perfect beat to get me into a comfortable pace, which led me to the end of the workout without any major problems. I can only thank the 1984 one-hit wonder "Wake me up before you go-go" for moral and rhythmic support.
I'm planning a special playlist for W3D3, and now I know where to start.
