A Question of Balance

An appropriate title as it was the Album on my playlist by 'The Moody Blues'

and it was also one of the purposes of my run of which there were 4.

1. to slow it down

2. to concentrate on my form (Balance)

3. to extend my run

4 to enjoy

and i'm happy to say i accomplished all 4

in fact, the hardest part was number 1, to slow it down !

in some ways it was a bit of an awakening , it made me realise just how much time i spent looking at my watch on my run !!

even when i was wanting to run slower.

Crazy! especially as i know already that i'm in the HR zone i wanted when i'm running at a conversational pace .

Don't forget the basics Ian !

anyway , my slower pace enabled me to concentrate a bit more on my form, which i think is improving thanks to my physio and James dunne !

i was intending to keep this slow as i wanted to extend the run, initially just by the recommended 10% to a distance of 5.5K

However, it was going well, i was comfortable and when i reached 5.5k i was too close to home so i wanted to give myself more of a warm down walk so i carried onto 6K.

so a big lesson learnt for me was , ignore the tech !! just control my pace by my breathing

run in the moment and enjoy,

after all, surely thats what its all about ! 😊🏃‍♂️

Brilliant run, Ian! Run in the moment and enjoy. Perfect! And just what I was doing this morning, too! I may have started a slow running revolution 😂

Plus - love the Moody Blues 🎶 particularly Seventh Sojourn.

yes, i enjoyed it. 👍

it was always my intention to slow it down when i want to increase the distance !

i just wasn't sure when i was going to do it (still aware of the injury)

Always been a fan of the moody blues as well as floyd 😬

Ian - I love how we are learning g all the time.. finding what works for us... our own little techniques!

You’re doing so well! 👏👏👏

Slow runs can be great can’t they - as you say... ignore the tech and enjoy the run 👌

Yes, it's so easy to get caught up in the tech and the numbers sometimes that we forget to enjoy the run , 🙂

That’s great really great, we find when we go really slow we can sing as well as talk and barely breathe hard even though my watch tells me i’m in a high hr zone, but we feel it when we speed up

Carry on enjoying your running adventure

Sounds like you’ve got it sorted. Listen to your body not the tech 😁

Sure it has its uses , but it's so easy to get too tied up in it ,

If you can breathe then your probably doing ok 😂

Yes, that breathing thing is important 😤

I love your 4-point plan! No.1 is always the toughest to achieve, I think! But if we can do that, numbers 2, 3 and 4 should be much easier to master. I don’t know why no.1 is so difficult, especially for people like me who run solo. I’m not trying to keep up with anyone else, so slow should be easily achievable 🤷‍♀️.

Absolutely, I also run alone but I found it so hard to slow down, I was too tied up in numbers , when I stopped looking at my watch everything improved 😬
