It’s been 3 years since I’ve tried to complete the 9 weeks of couch to 5k but never did because something alway came up.
This year I have been so so determined to complete the couch to 5k more than ever. I said to myself once I have completed the runs over 9 weeks every other day, I will start going to gym.
I am super proud of myself, yesterday I completed the W9R2 and I feel so so good and I have lost 1 stone.
I am completing my final outdoor run for couch to 5k tomorrow and I am now worried about joining a gym due to Covid-19. The out door runs have been so so painful and I wanted to start doing something different.
Any suggestions on what I could do are welcome 🤗😃

Heres some things I have done since grad. Just ideas, ignore them if they don’t suit you, but they are suitable for virus precautions currently depending where you live
Explored new routes,
Gone ‘off road’ ,
Bought some ‘barefoot trainers’
Tried Japanese slow running ( google it , it works!)
Driven out to remote place , then gone for run (tell someone, take your phone)
Starting ‘canicross’ running with dog, ( adds a mental element to running for both)
Lucky to be near the beach so tried sand running too.
When you say outdoor running is painful, in what way? Because, right now I think it's probably the best form of exercise to maintain - along with walking and cycling. If you can persevere with it, even just for the next few months, I'm sure it will pay dividends for your physical and mental health.
I'm with you on the gym. Mine has closed anyway, but I wouldn't have attended in the current climate. And I'm already missing my swimming 😥
Apart in that, I'm looking for suggestions for good online exercise programmes and I will be dusting off my old exercise bike.
Thank you 😊, when I say painful I meant that when I start running it’s difficult and becomes better with time but the area I live in have lot of up hill pathways that I can’t avoid and this has been challenging mainly going up hill and trying to regulate my breathing at the same time.
You should be very proud of completing the programme running uphill! You've had a far tougher journey than I had! My previous post still stands. Your heart, lungs and immune system must all have benefitted and I'd just keep going for now, at least.
Just think, in a few months time, you'll be able to go further afield, run on the flat and smash all your personal bests. 👊
Welcome back to the forum and well done on your progress and determination.
If you post when you complete the plan I will send you a link to a guide to post C25k running, which may be helpful.
An outdoor runner is always going to stronger than they would have been if they had only trained on a treadmill, simply because of gradients, uneven surfaces, differing temperatures etc. You will also get fresh air and Vitamin D for free, be able to explore all sorts of beautiful landscapes and nature...........yes, I am biased.........I cannot understand why people run in gyms when there is a great big outdoors to experience.
Yes, I think you should try and run staying outside - it’s definitely the best option at the moment. I struggle too and find it tough going, but I’m trying to find a way for it to be more comfortable by experimenting. You’ll be able to do that too once you’ve done the final run - good luck with it 😁
