W7r2 - really hard going 😔 obviously an off day.

This morning I read some lovely posts with photos from fellow runners who were celebrating finally spotting the signs of spring on their early morning runs. That put me in a great mood and I thought I’d do the same.

It’s the first beautiful sunny morning for quite sometime where I live and I was looking forward to my run.....

Unexpectedly this was by far my hardest run. I didn’t expect it to be, but it was. As it’s nearly a week since I was last able to run I shouldn’t really be surprised. I have done yoga and Pilates and lots of dog walks in between but no running. It just shows .... 😔 I ran such a slow pace to ensure I made it through the full 25 minutes. My legs felts so heavy during the run but they recovered during the cool down walk. I have stretched them out now and they feel better.

So perhaps this gap was just a tad too long at this stage? The upside is the niggling foot behaved itself. Here’s hoping run 3 is more enjoyable and I can look out for spring then!

Hello Delly-dot , great you got a sunny run it really makes all the difference. 🌞

Don't worry when I last had nearly a week off the first run back felt tougher.

Have a great weekend 🌞🌞

in reply toBuddy34

Thank you Buddy. It was so lovely to see the sunshine that I think I was expecting more from the run than I got. It left me feeling a bit deflated but your words of encouragement have helped. 🙏🏻😊

3rd time you'll nail it DellyD go easy 👍👍

Thank you Ian. I will take your advice 🐌 😊

Don’t worry about the odd ‘off’ run! I felt like I had a rubbish run for 2 out of my week 7 runs, felt tired and slow and wondered what had changed, becos it’s supposed to be easier at this point right?! Well I think sometimes there’s no rhyme or reason to it, sometimes its just harder than others! Keep going. You’re doing great. You finished the run - that’s a successful run! It’ll make it all the sweeter when you feel like you’ve absolutely smashed a run 👍🏻

in reply toFlyzabad

Thank you so much. You’ve made me feel better. Totally agree about mentally thinking it’s supposed to be getting easier by now. You are right - I did finish, so that’s a big positive. As so many say, it’s the hard runs that make a you a better runner. 😊

I’ve had 3 bad runs previous to today, I guess it’s going to happen but as long as we keep going!! X

in reply toSazzles9

You are so right Sazzles - keep on keeping on! Even if I'm being a snail, at least I'm an off the couch snail!

I think you know what I’m running faster and further than I could 6 weeks ago so I can do it x

You did it! That’s the main thing and kept going even when it felt tough so well done! I always seem to find the 2nd run in the week hard for some reason 🤷🏻‍♀️ x

in reply toReluctantrunner40

Hi and thank you. Yes - must remember I did it! Hopefully the next run will be as good as this was hard 🤞🏼😊.

Celebrate the run and the sun... some runs are just like that. Keep it relaxed and keep it steady, you, my friend, are doing perfectly!

in reply toOldfloss

Thank you for your kind words Oldfloss. It means a lot xx. It’s been lovely and sunny all day - it’s almost felt like spring.

I saw two new born lambs on my run this morning... not there when I ran out... there when I ran back :) It is on it's way!!!

Thank you! You’ve made me smile. Yes, I did it, albeit like a snail 🐌, but I did it!

Well done for finishing it. Prob the gap since ur last run affected today but just think that your next one will be better:)

in reply toDaroo

Yes. It was really difficult to get the runs in this week. I have to admit to being fed up of the constant rain/hail and I just couldn’t face yet another soaking. I’m hoping that today’s sunshine is a sign of better weather to come. Thank you 😊

Hi Delly Dot, amazing well done you completed the run at least :) I remember in W7 I had a lot of leg fatigue and exactly what you describe, it turns out I wasn't drinking enough water and as soon as I was hydrating enough the day before my runs were much better into W* and W9. The other thing that niggled me was my feet were very swollen, again this was hydration related.

A week away from running at this stage is not the issue as your body is already conditioned by now. Have a rest day or two before you go out for your next run, drink enough water and maye some run friendly foods to keep you going? Don't run on an empty tummy, maybe toast and peanut butter an hour or so before?

in reply toJaoJao

Hi JaoJao. Lovely to hear from you. Hydration could have been something affecting the run today. I’m usually really good but think during this week I have forgotten to keep topping up. I run mid-morning so I’d eaten breakfast. Thank you 😊 Xx

You are so close now it’s definitely not your fitness levels at this stage. Take an extra rest day if you need it, you don’t want to go into the next run tired. Also remember the slow running advice, take it down a notch if it’s getting too much and start off slow, never sprint at the start, ease into it, light jog.

Well done for completing your run. Hope you enjoy the next one a bit more, you have worked so hard to get here Delly-dot

Spring is on the way. I’m sorry you weren’t “feeling it” today. To be honest I think the end of W7 is tough. It seems to improve when graduation hoves into view.

You can do it 😃🌸😃

in reply toComfortnotspeed

Thanks Comfort. I'll be out again either tomorrow on Monday. I have to admit to watching the weather as I'm so fed up of getting wet. I think that was half my problem on Friday - I'd ducked out of wet runs and the week then kind of ran away with me and before I knew it, it was Friday!
