Good luck to you Chew73 on starting C25K and welcome to the forum, just take all the runs slowly, you can repeat any runs or week's if you wish to, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, no running on consecutive days as that could cause a injury, onwards and upwards to run 1 of week 1. 😊 🏃🏾

Thankyou, I’m full of cold at the moment, hoping it will sweat it out of me too haha

Welcome to the forum - the perfect place to start your Couch to 5k journey (we are a little biased, of course!😉)

Click on the 'How to run Couch to 5' link, which you will see below the pinned posts on the home page - I am sure it will answer lots of your questions.

I think it's great that you have made the decision to take back a little control and get yourself fitter. I too have an underactive thyroid and although I am lucky in that it has not affected my weight, I am determined to look after myself as well as I can!

Good luck with your first run👍 - often taking those first steps out the door are the hardest. 😱 Top tip: take it as slow as you need to, in order to complete all the runs. Speed really isn't important. Oh, and most importantly - let us know how you get on. There are plenty of others setting off on the same journey as you who will know just how you are feeling and will support you on your way!🙂

Wow! Well done 👍

Me too, I'm 56 and running for the first time. I'm now on week 4, run 2 and feeling like a Titan! 😁. Slow and steady wins the race. My advice, just take each run on it's own merit and don't worry about the next one.

You've got this! There's loads of support on here, after all, we're all on the same journey. Well done for starting it.

Hi Newbie, the hardest thing is deciding to start. You might find the first couple of weeks difficult but keep going. If you’re anything like the rest of us, you’ll soon be loving it. It’s additive, honest! Keep posting and everyone will help you through the lows and celebrate the highs with you. Good luck!

Thankyou. It is really hard to first start it, I’m full of cold and I think I’m making an excuse to start next week!! So is it best to start ASAP (with cold) or waiting few days til it clears?? 🙄

I’m new too and had exactly the same thoughts - I just kept putting it off. I’m doing week 1 run three today and happy to share experiences. Let’s do this!

Chewy73 profile image

Well done! Yes that would be great 😁

I'm in exactly the same boat, under active thyroid, and broken foot last year, equals weight gain. I am off to do my second run today, dragging my dog with me, I'm sure it will be an education for us both. But do you know what, I'm going to do it this time, no more, if , buts or maybe... I go on holiday in 3 months, that size smaller beckons if I put my mind to it....

Good luck! I sprained my ankle years ago but keeps giving way! So a good ankle support required, it’s just doing the first run! I need a kick up the dooo daaa 👍

Welcome Chewy73 😁. I am 61, joined in January and am on W6R3 and love it. If I can do it, so can you. Take it easy, step by step, repeat runs if needed, and keep us posted on your progress. Good luck 😀💪

Hello moosey60 , 🤗sorry to butt into your post to chewy73,😬 but I m on week 6 run 3 tomorrow. I wish I had your love for this running malarky but so far it’s avoiding me . 🙈 . I m hoping it’s just the rubbish weather that is making me feel this way🥴 . I ve not repeated any weeks 😳but that s not to say it’s not crossed my mind 😒& it’s definitely on my mind this week . 😩Did you love it from week one or has it grown on you ...... maybe I m just a later bloomer 💐......🤣🤣

I m looking for people to chat with more my age as I m sure the younger generation will find it so much easier 😏

Hi Karen, i do like running as I am suffering from anxiety at the moment and running helps me a lot, however, I do have to push myself and yes I have repeated the odd run when I have skipped too many days. Don't give up, you have put a lot into it so far, it would be a pity. Don't be hard on yourself either. This is for you ... Keep me posted ☺️

I suffer from anxiety too! Does running help??

Moosey60 profile image
Moosey60 in reply to Chewy73

It helps me cos I need to get outside and do something. I invariably feel better after a run. Maybe it is because I zone out and stop overthinking 🙂

Me too with the anxiety thing but mine is now under control again with medication. The last time I had a big anxiety set back I took to the gym (I am 52 and this setback was linked to hormonal changes) and found it really helped, particularly running on treadmill. I am now running a dog training/dogwalking business so no time for gym but wanted to try running outside this time. Just completed Week6 and it has been a struggle as U am not a natural at this running business but I HAVE been motivated to persevere, thanks to the backing of folk on the forum. Do that first run, report back to us and I can guarantee that with the Forum behind you, you will get through this programme!

Haha!! I haven’t done a run yet! I’m still trying to get motivated haha 😂 I’m full of cold! N sniffles 🤧 so I’m ‘hoping’ to start in a few days when I’m feeling abit better and it stops raining!! Otherwise I’d end up with flu or nuemonia (however you spell it) 🤣

Moosey60 profile image

Don't put it off for too long. Give yourself a goal, an easy one, and try to stick to it. Instead of running now that you have a cold, go for a power walk. Plug yourself in to some.music, put on comfy shoes and go for a 30m walk ...

Chewy73 profile image
Chewy73Graduate in reply to Moosey60

I do walk a lot at work as I work at Center parc so that’s an active job but it’s the run I want to do

Moosey60 profile image
Moosey60 in reply to Chewy73

Well then make a goal and stick to it ... Keep me posted

I'm 61 Too! It's windy out, but I'm ready to go. Teamed it up with a run into town, pick up theatre tickets and walk back... might hit my 10,000 steps before lunch today...

Hard with the wind and rain. I did it though, and carried on walking 14, 578 steps to boot

Hi , I was exactly the same, now on w1r3 and feeling very proud of myself! Make sure you stretch out before and after and take it slow, I’m more like a shuffle, I have Jo in my ear telling me how well I’m doing and my daughter for company which definitely helps. Good luck.

Hi I’ve never run for over 30 years and put on weight thought I would never be able to do it but now I’m on week 5 and achieved something I never thought was possible , just take it slow and build yourself up slowly , you will be surprised what your body is capable of , good luck xxx

My advice would be get out there cold and all....you've emailed the C25K group so the initial bit is done. The first run is broadly a series of small 1 min runs interspersed with walks so take it very easy and within weeks you will be hooked.

I totally agree with everyone else just take it easy and believe in yourself & the program you definitely can do it let’s us know your process it helps x

Good luck Chewy, I too have an under active thyroid and keeping the weight off is hard but this will help! I am 6 weeks in now and when I started I wouldn’t have believed I could run non stop for 20 minutes but take it slowly do just what it says and no more, I’m 63 and have had the usual aches and pains at times but apart from the usual slightly tired muscles I’ve had no injuries. Give it a go, tell us how you get on and you will get lots of encouragement, go for it!!
