Sitting in GP waiting room

And I'm feeling disheartened. I've had knee pain for a fortnight. A combination of running and spending two days moving a lot of heavy boxes ot of a store into a freezer at work has left me having trouble walking any distance.

Couch 25k has done me so much good but I'm not sure if I'll be able to continue

Don't get too down! Just sounds like you've been overdoing things a little!

Wait and see doc but I'm guessing they'll say rest a bit.

Meanwhile do check out knee strengthening exercises on strength and Flex too!

Hi Huw. Hope it's not too bad. Definitely blame it on box moving. I too have gained massively from c25k but hurt myself doing something else. Think Schwarzenegger " I'll be back"

Oh don’t be disheartened, the very best of us get injured/niggles sometimes. The GP will probably recommend rest and painkillers for the short term, but for the long term, I can not recommend strength work for your legs highly enough. Knee pain can be caused by muscle imbalances elsewhere - everything is interconnected. As Jo suggested, take a look at the strength and flex forum for some ideas, or Google “strength exercises for runners” - anything that can improve your glute, hip and quad strength will serve your knees well. And there are so many simple exercises you can do at home using your body weight as resistance. Once your knees feel a bit better you could try bringing in a little strength work to your rest days. 👍 Hope you feel better soon.

Can I add to the healing wishes - please don't rule out getting back to the program just yet. I would strongly recommend seeing a Sports Physio who will be able to assess whether you have any biomechanical imbalances or weaknesses that may be contributing to your knee problems? They're usually not cheap but are worth their weight in gold and will set you up with the best strengthening program for your particular needs. Good luck and let us know how you get on 🙂🤞

I'd completely echo what Sandraj39 has said above. I had a similar issue 6 years ago and I asked my GP about orthotics (custom-made insoles) and he recommended a few Sports Physios. Subsequently, I was able to run again after 20+ yrs and

my life has never been the same since!

The outcome: ligament damage. Expect 8 weeks before running etc. Rest as much as possible. Currently painful to walk, difficult to sleep.... increasingly grumpy. Looks like I'll be staying again at week 1
