Week 4 is now behind me having just completed run 3. I swear by the 5 minute brisk warm up and warm down walks by the way. The first 3 minute run was OK but the second run, for 5 minutes, I began to to struggle physically, early into it, which began to influence my state of mind. It never helped when half way through battling with these mind and body demons that KC and the Sunshine Band's 'Give It Up' started playing, "Nana-na-nana-na-na, Baby give it up, Baaaby GIVE IT UP", over and over, followed by (would you you believe it), 'Everybody Hurts' by REM (note to self: update my 'Dad's Playlist'). At first I thought 'it's a sign...', then thought, 'No! I'm seeing his through'. I slowed in pace (not quick at all anyway) but just enough that it could still be classified as a jog. The final run was tough too, but a changed, evolved mindset is now kicking-in, that is, the positive thoughts are now overruling the negative ones.

What a great story! I need to take a leaf out of your book and get some positive thinking going. I keep repeating "I love running" but it hasn't quite sunk in yet :)

Well done on bagging week 4 👏

Brilliant stuff you, well done for getting the better side of the mind games as for sure the biggest challenge of C25K is the mental one, the physical bits just come with practice. I think I'm just about getting there with the mind over matter thing but it soon started to niggle away at me this morning during the longest runs I've ever done so far (W5 R2). If you can keep this up you will be fine.

Thanks Alast, good to know someone just ahead of me. Shows me the way forward is doable.

What a great story, brilliant that you got through despite those extremely unhelpful songs on your playlist 🎶🤣

I’m only a few week ahead of you, about to start week 8 post Dennis, but I completely agree and had the same experience as you around this stage with the evolving mindset shifting to a gradually more positive one.

The programme prepares our body perfectly for what is next. We have to prepare our head !

Your attitude will stand you in really good stead 👍💪

Next week is a big week for you, it was my favourite week so far.

Be confident and enjoy it 👍🏃‍♂️

You have to laugh 😂 at the random playlist, choosing the most inappropriate song at the wrong moment - but you got through it 😊 🏃 👍

So much of this is mental, getting your brain to believe what your body can do is the toughest bit!

Maybe make a new 'running' playlist with different songs - I can recommend 'Fat Bottom Girls' for motivation, but that might not work for you 😂 🤣

Good luck with week 5 - you'll love it 😍 🏃

If you want old school, try this. It will put a dance in your step. I always smile like an idiot thinking about my wonderful dad.
