So did 7k on treadmill this morning in 40 mins... Strava tells me it was 6.5k.... I’m confused 🤷‍♀️

GPS said it was 0 too 😂

Dunno... treadmills are all different... how’s Strava working it out? Think it has to be guesstimating too or did you tap in the pace?

I’ve no idea how Strava is working it out, it has my pace slower than treadmill and my distance shorter. I think I’ll trust the treadmill for indoor and Strava for outdoor

I’ve not hit the dreadmill yet, but Nike lets you manually enter a run, so I’d do exactly what you said, go off the treadmill stats and enter them in... I assume Strava allowed this too.

Yeah Strava is the same.... we’re getting new treadmills soon that can replicate a Strava outdoor run inside so incline/speeds etc can match a pre run outdoor course 😱😱😱

Yeah... saw one of them that was about £15k and could replicate lots of paths worldwide

I'd be trusting the Treadmill more than Strava to be honest.

I assume you're running the Strava on your phone which is strapped to your arm?

In which case Strava is estimating the distance by how your arm moves (your left arm will move forward simultaneously with your right leg/foot) - and so it can estimate your stride length and therefore your distance. Your phone has what's called an 'accelerometer' in it - it's a tiny piece of motion (gravity)-sensitive gadgetry, so it knows its 'up' from its 'down'.

But the treadmill will be more accurate.

I use my Apple Watch, I assume that’s the same principle 🤷‍♀️ I’ll definitely trust the treadmill over Strava for indoor runs. Thanks for your help

Yes, same principle and technology - you can see it in your smartphone (presumably your iPhone) - the auto=rotate function for photos uses the accelerometer to detect which way the phone is orientated :-)
