So I’ve just started w2 when during my run I felt

Excruciating pain in my lower back? (After getting new running shoes)

Any idea if this is common and just need to remain active to loosen up the back or just rest? I’ve read lower back pain is common for new runners?

Any pain such as that is not normal and should be checked out. We do expect some grumbly aches and pain when starting this but not excruciating pain.

Lower back pain is not normal for new runners.... or anyone really... so..you have the correct shoes, warming up properly and you are taking it gently... then you have a choice;

Try some simple back exercises...here is a post I put out on the Strength and Flex forum ( a great place for exercise ideas),

healthunlocked.com/strength......

Then when everything feels easier head out... slowly, try to land lightly ( we may hold ourselves tensely at first). kiss the ground with your feet and see how it feels. If all is well then make sure you do those post run stretches and carry on.

If the pain is still as bad as you say, after the run, then a Sports Physio' or your GP are your next port of call. Never run through pain or mask the pain with painkillers.

Keep us posted please too!

Thanks so much for the guidance- I’ll definitely keep stretching and take it VERY easy! If all fails then I’ll pop in to see the GP!

Ouch. Take care. Look up Adrienne yoga for backs she has some simple stretching that can ease off some pain.

Runners do need good core strength as run duration increases.

I would try reverting to your old shoes to see if that cures the issue.

Did you have a gait analysis before buying your shoes?

If so and you suspect that the shoes are contributing to the problem, then I would go back to the shop and get advice.

If you didn't have a gait analysis then it is possible that the shoes are wholly inappropriate for you.
