I was really hoping to do my 3rd Park Run today, I went for a run on Tuesday and about 2.3 miles in my calf gave way on me and I had to stop straight away because of the pain. I iced it when I got home and rested it until Friday evening. Bad mistake and too soon, I thought I'd just try it out on a gentle jog up the lane and after 100 yards, it went again, gutted!
Now have to give it at least a couple of weeks rest, so not a happy bunny especially when I see people running up the lane! Any tips welcome!
So a valuable lesson learnt, know your body and be more patient in the future!!!!

Watching others out running when you're injured is so hard😞 - you have my sympathies! I had a nasty calf tear when I was at week 8 of the program (over 4 years ago now - bruising, couldn't weight-bare properly and was limping for best part of a week!😩)
How long you need to rest will depend on the strain/ tear - you could try seeing a Sports physio (I know this is not a cheap option, sorry) who can assess and recommend a course of rehab/ strengthening exercises etc. Mine was worth her weight in gold and despite not being able to run for a long time, I have not had any problems with the injury since. Best of luck that you are not out for long, but it sounds like rest is probably the best thing you can do for now...oh, and shop for running gear online whilst you plan your comeback!🙂
Thank you for your message Sandraj39, I’m going to rest it this week and see if the pain subsides, then I might visit the local physio and see what they recommend! It’s very frustrating but that’s the joys of getting older!!!!
When my calf went i put a tubigrip bandage on it and managed to walk around at work it was at least a couple of weeks before i could run and then i took it really really slow and it still niggled a bit
