Got up at 4.30 this morning (was awake at 3.30 and could not get back to sleep) to go running and then straight to work after stretching and shower. This is my 7th run - I repeated Week 1 as I was experiencing shin pain and did not want to push it too hard. I enjoyed this run, had a bit of pain in my right shin but just backed off when it flared up. Shins are tender now but I probably wont be out again for 4 days so plenty of time to recover. Will keep lifting those baby cows. Happy

Great dedication to run in the cold dark middle of the night

Thanks. Occasionally suffer from insomnia as I was this morning, gave myself an hour to get back to sleep or I would get up and go running. I didn't get back to sleep.

Cor, that was an early run! Well done. 👏👏👏 Sorry to hear about the shin pain though. Keep strengthening the calf muscles and do your gentle stretches. Your shoes are good, right?

Thanks. I couldn't sleep, was just lying in bed with my mind whirring for an hour - I thought sod this, I'm going for a run.

Shins are definitely easing compared to the first few runs I did, think the calf raises have been helping - I try and do some every day.

I have a pair of running shoes - neutral - and I will be getting gait analysis etc done (hopefully) when I am down south in a couple of weeks time. There is nowhere within 2 hours from where I live that does it. I hope it helps.

Glad to hear the calf raises are helping! Strength work is great for runners; well, crucial I’d say! Good too to hear you will be getting a gait analysis - it might not be your shoes causing the issue, but it won’t hurt to see what’s what in terms of your running style etc. All the best!

Cor blimey, dark and cold morning run! Well done you. Shin pain can sometimes be the wrong trainers - could you get gait analysis done? From the sounds of your name you know about muscles, so guessing you're stretching properly?

Thanks.

Dark, yes. Cold, not really, quite mild this morning. Must be the Brexit effect ha ha.

Will hopefully getting gait analysis done in a couple of weeks. Hope it helps, I've seen a lot of posts on here saying it makes a massive difference.

Trying to stretch properly - I follow a couple of routines from Youtube, alternating daily along with plenty of calf raises. I think it's down to years of sitting down for long periods of time, making for weak hips, shins etc

Wow good for you, that is dedication.

Thanks. Couldn't get back to sleep after waking at 3.30 - gave myself an hour to get back to sleep or I would go running. Went running

Sounds perfect!

Well, yes and no. Perfect time to go running, especially if you feel a bit self conscious as I do, nobody around, just the moon and stars. Not perfect as I could have done with a bit more sleep. Will be knackered tonight.

in reply to Perry-Formis

I known what you mean. I have always slept a straight 8hrs but for the last year and a half have woken every two hours and it is tiring.

As for feeling self conscious, I think lots of us feel like that. However, before I started to run, whenever I saw someone out running I always thought good on you, at least you’re getting out there!

Hope you’re not too tired and enjoy th rest of your day.

Thankyou.

It was a choice between lying in bed with the cacophony in my head as my mind just sped and I couldn't get no more zeds or what I could do instead - which was go for a run.

That is such a good answer to insomnia. Well done for getting out there so early in the morning. Hopefully you may sleep tonight but either way you should feel good because you have done your run. 🐄 🐮

Thanks. Yes, looking forward to a good nights sleep tonight. The next time I wake up early and can't get back to sleep I may well do it again.
