Couch to 5 for a dog

Last September I got another rescue dog. I was advised not to start him running until he is one. His estimated birthday is Friday and I am thinking of starting him on Couch to 5 after the weekend to build him up slowly. Do you think this is a good idea?

Loads of people run with their dogs and it works for them...my dog is far too sniffy to run with and he wees on everything vertical so there’s too much stopping for my liking!!! Im sure building your dog up gradually whilst gaining fitness yourself will be a lovely experience for you both...good luck, and let us know how you’re getting on 😉

Thanks. I did Graduated from Couch to 5 last year and have a half marathon at the end of March (he will not be doing that!) but have had a dodgy knee for a couple of months so my running has been limited so a few easy runs with Jack will probably be good for me too. He is a bit sniffy but not much of a wee-er so hopefully that will not be too much of a problem.

That sounds like a great idea

Sounds like a great plan. Dogs muscles and bones need to be conditioned too... and he will need to learn to run slowly... that’s certainly alien to the two puppies here, it’s 100% or lie down 🤣
