I did go out at midnight and I started the run as normal but it happened to be 1 degree outside and it became very evident during the warm up walk that I might not be dressed appropriately for the occasion. The slippery frost on the ground didn’t help the situation.
So I did the walk, I ran for a minute, I walked and then as the second run started I made the executive decision to go home. So I ran back and I didn’t stop so at the very least I got an extra minute in for a grand total of 3 minutes of running.
Now, do I need to worry? I went out in the usual tshirt, hoody and pyjama trouser combination. I was outside for about 15-20 minutes in a near-freezing temperature. I’m inside now still wearing the hoody and I feel warm but I don’t want to risk cooling down too quickly. So, have I put myself in any danger and do I need to do anything about it? I’m a worrier so I haven’t done myself any favours.
Incidentally, if I survive the night, what would be appropriate to wear when running while it’s freezing out? I don’t want to have to stop this.

I usually wear base later under my leggings. I wear about 3 layers on top and often take my light jacket off and tie round my waist as I go (I get hot quite quickly) gloves, hat/cap and buff over my face. I’d rather run in the cold than the heat as it’s harder to keep cool than to keep warm I find. Well done for venturing out at midnight!!
Thanks that’s my only available slot at the moment! But unfortunately the weather put a stop to that so I’m going to need to rethink my running clothes, I’m on a pretty tight budget though...
I really hated to do it but it seemed pretty necessary by that point. I’m trying to do this for cheap, I was looking at a thermal shirt and trousers in Sainsbury’s earlier, think that under my usual running clothes and a beanie would do it?
Sounds like you made the very sensible decision to stop!
Go out and get some proper running gear would be my advice.
It doesnt have to be stupid money. Early in the program my wife and I managed to kit ourselves out with leggings, running tops and gloves from Aldi for a combined cost of £50.
You can pick up a long sleeved running top pretty cheap and then just throw a sweater over it. Proper leggings are key though I think.
I don’t think you need to worry, just do the cool down stretches and I’m sure all will be ok. As far as clothing goes I think I’d ditch the jammy bottoms and get a pair of cold weather running bottoms if your going to run during the cold nights. Decathlon are pretty good and reasonable for that sort of stuff.
