I’m back!!!

Well for the 3rd time I’m back on C25k. It was a niggly hip and then a particularly nasty virus that wiped me out this time. So after 2 lots of antibiotics and a course of oral steroids I stopped trying to cough up a lung and could finally walk upstairs without thinking longingly of a Stanna Stairlift. “ let’s get Xmas and new year out the way and then go for it again”. And I did!!.

I hadn’t run since Oct 16th when I attempted it and could not run for 30 seconds without nearly blacking out and stopping breathing. Kept thinking it would go but it didn’t!!

So this morning I leapt out bright and early .... well at 10.30 🙄 I HAVE just re retired...and just got my gear on and went. Nothing wonderful ..8 x 60 seconds runs with walking in between but so much more than I could have done a week or so ago. And now I have the running bug again. Already planning Wednesdays route and wondering whether to go straight to week 2 or build up gradually...???

AND I got back in time to pick my washing in before it chucked down with rain!! So all in all ...RESULT!!!

Happy running folks!!

Woohoo, I love hearing people start their first run because this is open the hardest one.

You're not alone having to come back from a break. It took me 9 months to get from Couch to 5K... Not bad for a 9 week plan 🤦‍♂️

Regarding jumping to week 2, I'd err on the side of caution. How far into the plan did you get last time, how long was your break since your last run, and what's your current fitness level?

I’ve completed C25k twice now and B210k. First time I fractured my ankle and had 3 months off with foot in a boot. Then repeated C25k, B210k and built back up again . Got up to 21k/ HM end of August this year. Then went back to work part time and picked up the nasty winter virus and just cd not shake it off. I’ve had asthma and then inhalers since I had flu 2 years ago and ended up with chest infections from this virus, and couldn’t run since beg of October. Really struggled to breath and was given antibiotics, then oral steroids, then eventually a dif set off antibiotics before I finally shook it off.

So not run for 13 weeks.

Surprisingly my breathing was fine and my overall pace was better than my last go at week 1, after the last injury.

I’ve been walking regularly even while ill and I do Pilates regularly so fairly fit I’d say.

Sorry to hear you have been feeling unwell, that chest infection sounds very nasty 🙁. All the best with your 3rd time doing the programme - just take it very steady 😊
