Hi everyone, so I'm just going in a few mins to do my first run, (jog). I haven't exercised properly in years so any advice for a newbie would be appreciated also Just wondering people who do their runs in a morning is it best to eat breakfast before or after?

Welcome. The best advice I can give is take it slow and slower still. Drink plenty water and do stretches after every run. I never eat before a morning run. If you do eat you will have to wait for at least 2 hours before you run. Good luck.

Hello Beginnermum. Just go slow and slower again if needed and remember to drink 2-3 litres of water per day and not just on run days.

Some people can run on an empty stomach but I don't and I have 2 weetabix 2 hours before a run. See what works for you.

C25k is an amazing plan and really does work , you'll get lots of encouragement and support on here. Good luck 😊😊

Following this thread - I’ve just got back from my first run. Couldn’t quite manage all of the runs but did my best ☺️ Hope yours went well!

Thank you all for your lovely supportive comments, I did run on an empty stomach and it seemed to work well, I did manage all runs but like you said got slower and slower, I've just completed the cool down stretches which I enjoyed. Feeling good that I've started. Thank you. Oh I did also take and drink water that is Brill advice 😁 hope yours went well pam_joan

I've started this for the second time and just completed my second run today. I dont eat breakfast beforehand. I just get up and go. Think I may be worried if I have breakfast I wont go, it works for me but everyone is different.

We are up at 6am and drive to our favourite place to run. We never did the full 5K on our first C25K, but have completed 21 Parkruns. (Get out and find your local Parkrun. Love them!) We have started again due to being out for a year with illness. Started this morning and went straight to W2R1. Found it comfortable.

But starting off the first time and being that couch potato, I found the 60 second runs nearly killed me. Thought I would never get it done. I had a sheet with all the weeks laid out and was horrified to see a 20 minute run in week 5! But you know what? We did it! And so will you.

I hope your run went well, but remember, we are all here to support you. Any problems? Ask on here. Achieved something? Post it on here. We are all your new best mates.

Thank you so much I am a bit apprehensive about tomorrows run W1R2 because I actually ache today, something already has started happening with my muscles or maybe it's just from not doing exercise for such a long time. Am also looking forward to it tho. I think I also will have to be up early to fit it in now I'm back at work so hoping it's not to windy and rainy tomorrow morning 🤔

Also was wondering about good sports clothing to wear, trainers and if running socks are a help? If anyone has any advice? I have got half decent trainers but the rest of my attire is pretty basic lol! 😆
