I think that’s very good. My aim is a 6min/km over a 5 k run. How far are you running total?

I've been running 1.2 in 6 mins and occasionally 2.5km in 15 mins for a slow run

That is quite quick indeed. A 22min 5k is fast. Good for you.

As you’re new to running do try not to go too fast too soon. The length of time you run is important, speed will come. Follow the plan and you’ll get there. Try to get there too fast and you’ll be injured before you know it.

Good luck.

Try the elliptical crosstrainer or the rowing. They're kind to your joints.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your run

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

This programme is about building stamina and endurance and not about pace.

That is an excellent time for you, but comparison is pretty futile on this forum since our membership consists of runnners spanning more than five decades of age, every shape , weight and fitness level, ability and disability that you can imagine..........do you want to compare yourself to a twenty year old male marathon runner or a seventy year old female with arthritis.

Compare yourself to your former self, that way you will see progress.

Enjoy your journey.

Well, how did it feel? You should be able to jog along and still be able to speak (although I don't always manage that one). When you stop, you should be puffed out but able to recover reasonably quickly (rather than heaving on the floor with jelly legs). Try to listen to your body. There isn't a shortcut to running at speed, you really need to be patient and get some miles under your belt, then add a few hills, sprints and long, slow distance runs.

Good luck

You ran 1km in 4.40 mins, that means around 12km /hr. When I am riding my bike doing a cardio, I usually reach 15-18km/hr. I will let you decide by yourself whether that's good or not
