Runner's elbow...

Has anyone here heard of this or suffered with it? One of my elbows is very sore, I don't play tennis, or the violin, the only thing I can think of is running...Yes, I'll see the doc if it continues, but just wondered if anyone here could shed any light on it first.

Can't really help..but it seems fairly common, on looking around the web...

The main thrust seems to be over use..holding our arms and elbows in the same position...with links to tension and neck strain????

I know I consciously relax my arms every so often when running..shaking them out..

Really? You've seen that? I've Googled and can't find anything...it's in one of the knobbly bone bits, not the joint...it's most peculiar.

Hello CG! Lovely to see you here again 🙂 I had this earlier this year after doing something stupid when lifting something. Although the pain was in my elbow it was actually my shoulder that was injured! The doctor recommended the exercises from this website:

versusarthritis.org/about-a...

Hope you get it sorted and your running is going well x

Hi IP! This is in the knobbly bone not the joint, and started a couple of months ago when I found a small bruise there. I don't remember banging it or anything, but they are funny things, elbows!

Yeah that’s where mine was too. I couldn’t understand it as, like you. I hadn’t damaged it or banged it in any way. It was only when talking to the doctor and thinking about it I realised I probably strained the shoulder when lifting heavy watering cans for the garden! Yet another injury from gardening 🙄 Or it could have been the weights 🙄 But it didn’t prevent me from running.

Do you carry anything in your hands when running? Do you ball your hands into fists?

A trick I heard is to imagine holding a crisp between your middle finger and thumb. If you press too hard the crisp will break so you need to touch lightly.

No, I try to keep relaxed, and never carry anything. I've read that tip, except it was to imagine a butterfly in your cupped hands! Like Floss I shake my arms out now and then...
