Back on track! Tomorrow W7R1. Any tips for managing the last 5 minutes of the run?

After ten days away for work, I’m now back on track and have bought some great running shoes from those wonderful people in Run & Become in Victoria. What a difference good shoes make. We completed W6R3 fairly easily despite the horizontal rain 🙁. For this longer run, I found the last 5 mins really hard-going. Any tips?

Simples slow down. If it hurts go slower and if it does not help go slower still. I used to get calf pain at a certain distance, once I got slow enough I over doubled the distance no pain no problem.

Don't focus on how long you have left, concentrate on your music, tell yourself you _get_ to keep running, like it's a privilege, not a chore. Smile, everything feels better when we smile 👍🏻😁

It might be helpful just to remember that you've already run for this length of time, you're just repeating the 25 minutes run. But if you do find the final five minutes tough again, just distract yourself any way you can. Sing a song in your head (or out loud if you want!), count up to 60, slowly x 5, notice your surroundings, eg if you are running in the woods, look out for squirrels etc. If you're running along a street, count the lamp posts / election posters / blue cars, etc etc. Before you know it, those last few minutes will have whizzed by. Good luck! ☺

Thank you all for your wonderful advice - I was cold and soaked the last time and looks like tomorrow will be dry. Fingers crossed. I'll do some smiling and count the cars and wait for Jo Whiley to tell me to stop.
