week 2 run 3 - horrible wet parkrun

The weather was terrible today - cold wind and driving rain. I was apprehensive about today's run as I found week 2 run 2 this week very hard. I thought hardly anyone would turn up for parkrun today but hundreds of people did including all the pace runners! No one paces at my level of slowness of course. I set off with my 5 minute warm-up walk at Laura's direction, watching everyone stream off ahead of me into the distance and trying not to annoy the people with buggies. I managed to keep going through all the 90 second runs getting progressively wetter and wetter with my trousers feeling heavier on my legs and even my hair a solid weight on my back dragging me down. There was someone else also alternating walking and running at the back so we kept passing each other in a friendly way. By the end I was completely soaked. None of the bar codes would read so we had to wait to get our numbers written down by hand and by the time I got to the car I was very cold. So... I do have a sense of achievement but it was very tough and not something I would have dreamed of doing a few weeks ago! Maybe I need some more wet weather gear? Any advice would be welcome.

You’re right about the “wouldn't have dreamed of this a few weeks ago” bit. That’s what I’m finding so interesting. I can’t wait for my next run and to progress through the weeks. Congrats on getting out there and doing it, it’s a great sense of achievement isn’t it 😊

It may have been horrible and wet but you did it and you should be so pleased and proud.

I now wear lycra bottoms , something I thought I would never wear and long sleeve running top the rain doesn't stick the same.

Also I have a wristband instead of a paper barcode , solves a lot of problems.

Good luck and well done 🤗🤗

Thanks for the advice - I've ordered some waterproof barcodes. Not sure I can see myself in lycra just yet - maybe one day! :)

Well done you for getting out there despite the cold wind and the rain. If you coped in horrible weather, you'll love it when it's a nice dry day! ☺

Never done a park run, but I've run in torrential rain. Haven't quite worked out if I like it or not :-). Not a fan of the cold though :-(
