Managed 30 minutes end September but had got bit bored so did it after about 7 weeks!! Nothing more til yesterday and managed another 30 minutes, but only just over 4km but it was pretty muddy and slippery, hopefully would be 5km when dry!! May be doing first Park Run in a few weeks, most be mad!! Reason I started this programme was having had meniscus clean-up surgery at the beginning of August so wanted something different to do before I could get back fully to tennis and dance!!

Wait what, you did a muddy slippy 4k after 7 weeks of no running? I'm guessing you're pretty fit if you're still standing. 💪
Parkrun is great, and if you can do 4k from a standing start you'll manage fine. But it will be even better if you do a couple of runs a week leading up to it. They don't all have to be 30 minute runs either. Keep your muscles in condition, don't skip the warm-up walk, cooldown stretches, avoid injury, especially now as it's getting colder. You want to get back on that dancefloor in one piece!

If I understand correctly you started the programme but ditched it after 7 weeks because you were bored with it and just leapt straight to 30 mins? 🤔
You've now had a 6 week-ish break and gone for 30 mins again?
Hopefully you won't suffer any adverse effects. Most people are usually capable of pushing themselves harder than recommended however if you want to keep running long term it is much better to work up slowly to a level and then maintain that level to reduce your chances of injury.
A good part of the programme is learning to do as we're told for the benefit of our body. Muscles need time to build up and can be easily damaged as can tendons and ligaments.
If you haven't read it fully previously I would check out the guide to the programme to see if you can pick up any tips to minimise your chances of injury

Thanks for reply. It's more that I actually don't like running on it's own!! I play tennis, cycle, dance, ski, I did the 1st 30 minutes just before I went away for 10 days then didn't really feel like getting back into it when I got home!!!! No, I don't really suffer from aches after!! I'm quite determined to at least one Park Run though, so will try and run 30 minutes twice a week til then!!
