Help Please - What's This Injury?

Hi there. A few weeks back I seemed to have injured my left calf muscle. I can only describe it as a heavy sort of tight feeling in the muscle, that causes quite a bit of discomfort when I try to walk normally. At WK5R1, I had to stop running. After several days of iboprofen gel and a weeks rest on holiday abroad, I was ready to run again. I started back gently on WK3R3. All seemed to go well I until the cool down walk. As I was walking back uphill, my calf went again and I had to hobble home. 2 days later, it's still tight and sore. Any thoughts on what I've done, how best to recover and how to avoid future injury. I really want to get back into the program 😕

Please do go get it checked out..a sports physio is the best place to start...we are not experts and all injuries are different.

It is worth getting an accurate diagnosis of the problem:)

That could be many a thing but the question should be forwarded to a sports physio as none of us here is a medical professional. If a niggle becomes a pain and refuses to go away then it's best to consult someone in the know, someone who can help stop that from becoming a problem. Don't despair though, injuries in this game come and go but they are all fixable.

Hi Manco, yes get it checked out however how is your hydration? Do you drink enough fluids the day before your runs? Had calf strains that I have never experienced before but was advised to drink more water and that solved my problem with calf strains. Hope it is nothing worse than that!

Might just be a tight muscle, try and get into a sports physio, your gp or a sports massage therapist, whichever is most easily accessible before it gets any worse.
