World Polio Goodgym run

I thought I would share my longest run in my 2 years of running (12.5k). I run with Goodgym for people who don’t know what this is ... Goodgym is an organisation that help community based projects with any tasks they need help with such as litter picking, gardening, painting. You run as part of a group to a task, typically around 5k . We meet up run to the task complete the task and run back to base it’s good as the run is split so we get a rest ! Most of the bigger cities have Goodgym it is a great way to do a bit of volunteering within your local community and I feel a real sense of pride to be able to make a bit of a difference to my city.

This mission as it’s called was a little different. This was to highlight World Polio day . As a group we ran around Leicester delivering crocus bulbs to places of worship.

We started at Leicester Cathedral and made our way to a Hindu temple and shared in their Diwali celebrations . We then went on to a Sikh temple to be greeted with amazing food. Our next visit was to a Mosque again with a wonderful welcome. We then ran back to our starting point . Polio is rare now with only 3 countries in the world where it is still a problem. It was a pleasure to meet so many hard working people.

Take a look at Goodgym and it may be something that may interest you 😊
