Beyond 5k...

Just thought I would let everyone know how things have been going since C25K.

I started C25K on 31st December 2018. I was aware I would no longer remain in my 30’s during the following year, so decided to be “Fit @40”. I was at that time nearly 18 stone in weight. It was suggested to me that I might find running a free and effective way of loosing weight and ultimately become healthier.

I completed C25K Tuesday 12th March 2019, after a couple of injuries and like so many I was wondering what next?

It was at that point I started Parkrun. If you haven’t ever tried it, don’t wait as long as me and give it a try. I was worried that I wasn’t a “real runner”, so kept swerving it. I realised there was soo much more I could work at, so decided to try and improve my form and work on stamina and speed through tempo runs and distance.

10 months later from starting C25K I ran my first race. I ran 10k, through a dark forest at night on a trail. And I actually enjoyed it. There has been points when I hated running, actually thinking this is not for me. Perseverance has actually allowed me to feel joy in running before, during and especially after!

Just to put everything in perspective, I have never been active, never been sporty, had a bad diet and smoked for many years.

I guess my point is, that if you keep going, keep trying and just get out to “run” whether at night in morning, for 20mins or an hour and 20mins, you will get there!! If I can do it, anyone can.

Just keep moving...

Well done you! Thanks for the inspiration.

I’m nearly 60 and just starting C25k after several failed attempts over the years.

I love the idea of running but the reality has always been damaged knees and ankles and bad hair, so I’m trying it on a treadmill.

Hope I succeed as well as you have x

Best of luck! Just keep it easy, I have some ankle issues, and doing some regular ankle exercises seems to have helped to strengthen them. I recommend The Running Channel on YouTube for help going forward

It was an experience as it was pitch black other than a head torch! Many different terrains made it interesting
