All going great guns am due to run w6r2 tomorrow but I’ve come down with a cold! What is best to do? Run anyway and try to power through it? Or sack it for a few days? Really want to carry on because I have signed up for my first park run on Saturday!! Terrified!! Never run outside before and have only run at longest for 20 mins on the treadmill (w5). Am intending to run and fast walk the route best as I can but worried about being lapped looking stupid taking too long you name it I’m worried about it. Any advice hints tips would be sooooo welcome xx

Sniffs and tips W6
Hi Veganlynz
Great stuff that you’re on week 6, well done on getting this far!
Tackling the question about your cold first - I’ve always carried on running through a cold. I find that at the time the deeper breathing clears the passages, and sometimes it seems to actually speed up the progress of the cold. But if you’re feeing really awful perhaps leave it for a day. And don’t make it a hard session, keep it at medium effort (which probably means it’ll feel a bit slower than normal). Be sensible but don’t use it as an excuse for not running!
And as for Parkrun, just go for it, jog and walk at your own pace. You’re doing it for yourself not for others, and if it’s anything like our local parkrun you’ll get a big cheer when you finish. Parkrun usually has a designated Tailwalker, so you won’t be last! Just get out there and enjoy it, and establish your best time, which you will then continue to improve!
I had a head cold for about ten days and managed to continue running but I wasn't feeling ill. So it's really down to how you are and if you have the energy. A few days rest from running can help also. Hope you're feeling better soon. 😊
If it’s not in your chest, keep going but keep well hydrated before and after. ENJOY the park run!! Old grannies like me fast walk it & come in long after the runners & give the back marker a hard time!! 🤣 Seriously there are all ages, sizes, abilities & dress codes. You will be just another potato in the sack! Nothing to worry about! I am planning to run my first one after I graduate. My next goal! 😊
